Mechanical Engineer - Technical Team

Job Purpose As the Utilities & Mechanical Engineer, you will oversee technical oversight and lead projects through design, construction, and operation for all plant utilities systems. You will ensure that plant capacity is not limited by insufficient utility capability, maintain reliability and correct operation, and implement a utilities strategy to achieve efficiency and sustainability goals. Responsibilities Develop predictive demand and load‑management tools for utility systems based on forecasted plans. Define design, automation, construction and operation standards for plant utilities, meeting all relevant laws, regulations and sustainability goals. Document and communicate basis of design for all equipment to key stakeholders. Provide technical support for procurement of utilities, vendor selection, contract negotiation, and budgeting justification. Lead construction phase, collaborate with plant and project engineering teams to ensure on‑time, on‑budget delivery. Lead commissioning, validation, FAT/SAT protocols and develop training materials. Oversee new line/plant mechanical & utility design, maintain documentation, and handle HAZOP, FAT, DQ, OQ, PQ activities. Resolve complex processing, mechanical, and utility problems to improve reliability and reduce downtime and cost. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering, or process engineering with experience in dairy or food industry. 5+ years progressive experience in utilities design, operations and construction in dairy, beverage, or chemical processing. Experience with engineering design and construction firm; P.Eng preferred. Proven track record of improving manufacturing processes through redesign, automation, and new technology introduction. Data analysis and process modeling in Microsoft Excel required; modeling experience with Aspen, SuperPro or similar is a plus. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to work in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment. Food Safety Requirements Notify management of repairs or adjustments that affect product quality or food safety. Perform duties to meet company, customer and/or government food safety standards. Initiate actions to prevent nonconformities related to food safety, product quality, systems or safety.
