Summary

Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing a team of employees, monitoring their overall performance, and ensuring that the product meets customer satisfaction. The Shop Supervisor will also be responsible for developing and implementing process improvement plans to reduce cost, improve quality, and look for ways to grow the business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

• Manage workflow of shop employees
• Ensure goals and deadlines are being met
• Understand the set up and operation of all machines in the manufacturing area
• Check and oversee inventory for count and proper materials
• Provide coaching and training to shop staff
• Prioritize, plan production schedules, and delegate work assignments
• Review parts shortages with purchasing, and adjust schedules as necessary
• Participate in planning meetings, recommending space, personnel, and equipment requirements
• Evaluate processes and methods, recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment, performance, utilization of people, and quality of product
• Act as a technical resource to address and resolve inquiries and problems; analyze and resolve work problems, and assist workers in solving work problems.
• Maintain departmental supplies, tools, equipment, and advise to order when necessary
• Ensure the completion of all required production paperwork, records, documentation, such as time cards, quality records, etc.
• Ensure compliance with departmental housekeeping standards and all safety / work rules are followed.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma OR GED
• Associates or Bachelor degree in Logistics or Supply Chain Management is a plus
• 3+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
• At least 1 year of supervisory and/or leadership experience 

Other related skills

• Operating overhead cranes
• Licensed and/or forklift operation preferred
• Proficiency in basic math skills
• Ability to accurately use a tape measure 
• Ability to read and understand blueprints 
• Basic computer knowledge (typing, ability to use a mouse, basic computer navigation etc.)

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization. Bilingual English/Spanish helpful, but not required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
