Job Description

The Overhead Crane Technician inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains overhead cranes and hoists, ensuring safe and reliable operation for a variety of industrial customers. This role performs scheduled preventive maintenance, responds to repair calls, and conducts OSHA/ANSI-equivalent inspections while providing exceptional customer service and clear communication. The technician documents all service and installation activities and supports customers by evaluating equipment conditions and recommending effective repair solutions and system improvements.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair overhead cranes and hoists to ensure safe and efficient operation.

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities on overhead crane systems and related equipment.

• Support customers by effectively interfacing with both customer contacts and office staff to coordinate repairs and service.

• Evaluate equipment conditions and make clear recommendations regarding required repairs and system improvements.

• Maintain strong rapport with customers by examining complaints, identifying solutions, and suggesting improved methods and techniques.

• Service overhead crane systems by performing quality installations and ensuring work meets OSHA/ANSI-equivalent inspection criteria.

• Conduct and document OSHA/ANSI-equivalent inspections, completing all required forms, reports, and inspection checklists accurately.

• Complete warranty work in accordance with company and manufacturer standards, documenting actions taken.

• Respond to breakdowns and repair calls in a timely manner, providing effective troubleshooting and corrective action.

• Perform preventive maintenance on overhead cranes and associated equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

• Build and maintain customer confidence by maintaining good response times, communicating issues clearly, and completing jobs on schedule.

• Maintain a professional presentation in all interactions, including punctuality, appearance, and organized work habits.

• Work independently in the field, managing time and tasks to meet deadlines and customer expectations.

• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a safety-oriented approach while working at heights and around heavy equipment.

• Travel within the assigned region to perform onsite inspections, maintenance, and repairs as required.

• Remain available for on-call assignments, including occasional extended hours and weekend work when needed.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment.

• Knowledge of overhead crane maintenance, repair, and inspection practices.

• Ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits and identify faults in complex systems.

• Mechanical aptitude and knowledge sufficient to diagnose and repair overhead cranes and related machinery.

• Experience performing inspections to OSHA/ANSI criteria or equivalent standards.

• Hydraulics and pneumatics knowledge relevant to heavy equipment and crane systems.

• Basic welding skills applicable to repair and maintenance of heavy equipment.

• Ability to work at heights, including on overhead crane structures.

• Good driving record suitable for operating a company vehicle.

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a field service environment.

• Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple service tasks.

• Excellent communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams.

• Strong customer service orientation, focused on quality and results.

• Safety-oriented mindset, consistently following safety procedures and guidelines.

• Ability and willingness to travel frequently within the assigned region.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to fabricate and weld structures for repair or installation purposes.

• Experience assembling and repairing complex machinery and mechanical systems.

• Prior experience working with overhead cranes, hoists, or similar industrial lifting equipment.

• Familiarity with documentation practices, including completing service forms, reports, and inspection checklists.

• Strong organizational skills to manage service calls, documentation, and follow-up actions.

• Results-driven approach with a focus on quality workmanship and timely completion of tasks.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role with travel within Arizona approximately 99% of the time, primarily working at customer manufacturing facilities and industrial sites. You typically work regular daytime hours, around 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but you remain flexible for occasional extended hours and some weekend work as business needs arise. You participate in an on-call rotation to respond to urgent service requests. The work environment varies depending on the type of manufacturing company and may include working at heights on overhead crane structures and around heavy equipment, electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics. You operate a company-provided work truck and follow established safety procedures and appropriate attire requirements suitable for industrial settings.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Phoenix, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $95000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
