Pharmacy Technician 3

The Pharmacy Technician 3 is responsible for gathering necessary clinical information to complete and submit prior authorization and financial assistance request forms on behalf of the provider. The Pharmacy Technician 3 will communicate and provide status updates to all stakeholders throughout the request process and also document all components in the EMR, providing visibility of prior authorization and financial assistance status to other departments. The Pharmacy Technician 3 will also participate in drug distribution duties in the retail pharmacies including processing, insurance billing, filling, cashiering, and delivery of prescriptions. #CA-DS

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position .

• California Licensed Pharmacy Technician
• Minimum education satisfied through attainment of the required license/certification
• Two (2) years of outpatient experience
• Recent experience processing third party billing
• Experience in performing pharmacy calculations
• Experience in the use of pharmacy information systems and look-up patient data on hospital information systems
• Knowledge of current California Pharmacy Law
• Demonstrated knowledge of generic and trade drug names and pharmacy terminology.
• Excellent customer service skills and communication skills, both orally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

• California Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB)
• Six (6) months UC Davis discharge workflow experience
• Recent Retail Pharmacy experience
• Prior Authorization/Patient Assistance Program experience
• Prior UCDH Pharmacy Work experience
• Knowledge of Hospital, Department and University Policies and Procedures

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.

The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.

Department Specific Job Scope

UCDH Outpatient pharmacies emphasize patient care in Hospital Discharge, Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Ambulatory Care, Employee Health and Specialty Pharmacy. Our pharmacies are responsible for screening prescriptions for appropriateness and making interventions, preparing medications for dispensing, distribution activities, providing immunizations and providing patient consultations. Staff are responsible for appropriate prescription billing to multiple payers including third party insurances, Medicaid, Medicare D and Medicare B plans. Our pharmacies maintain compliance with multiple accrediting bodies and with State and Federal Laws and Regulations.
