Associate Veterinarian

About the Role Petco’s Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospitals are looking for a qualified veterinarian to deliver comprehensive patient care and lead by example. The successful candidate will provide physical examinations, diagnostics, surgery, dental care and patient management while supporting the veterinary team. Essential Job Functions Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and delivering preventive care. Use a problem‑based approach: develop a complete problem list, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plan and appropriate treatments. Document all patient observations, findings, diagnostics, treatments, medications, client interactions and diagnoses in the electronic medical record. Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including spays/neuters, abdominal exploration, mass removals and other indicated surgeries. Perform routine and complex dental procedures, including full examinations, radiograph evaluation, extractions and oral surgeries. Develop treatment plans for patients requiring day hospitalization and transition patients to overnight care when needed. Participate in rounds as incoming or exiting doctor at shift changes. Disseminate knowledge to improve the level of care and communication; work collegially with staff. Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school. Active state veterinary license with no contingencies or ability to obtain it by hire date. DEA license and current controlled‑substance license if applicable; USDA CategoryI accreditation (or completion within two months). Proficiency in anesthesia, routine surgeries (canine/feline spays, neuters, mass removals, dentals) and dental procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; compassionate, professional demeanor under stressful situations. Computer and telephone proficiency; willingness to learn new techniques and offer creative ideas. Team player who can lead by example and support a cohesive, motivated team. Work Environment Primary workplace is the Vetco Total Care veterinary full‑service hospital. Duties include bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30lb, standing for extended periods, and direct contact with clients and pets. Benefits Competitive salary range: $83,700.00 – $177,700.00 per year, subject to state regulations and local minimum wages.
