OR Surgical Technologist

Position Overview United Health Services (UHS) is actively seeking a skilled and dedicated OR Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic surgical team. In this vital role, you will play a crucial part in delivering safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care within our fast‑paced operating room environment. As an OR Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for preparing operating rooms, ensuring all surgical instruments are sterile and readily available, and providing essential assistance to surgeons and nurses throughout various procedures. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply for this position. Work Locations UHS Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY; UHS Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton, NY. This position may involve floating across multiple UHS facilities. Primary Work Shift Rotational Compensation $25.27 – $37.90 per hour, depending on experience. Eligibility for benefits begins with a regular position of at least 24 scheduled weekly hours. Sign‑In Incentives Up to a $10,000 sign‑on bonus for candidates who meet eligibility criteria. Job Responsibilities Follow infection control policies and demonstrate expertise in surgical scrub technique. Adhere to principles of sterile technique pre‑operatively and intra‑operatively. Assist the surgeon when needed: gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments and other related items during the procedure. Anticipate the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment. Maintain an organized operative field at all times by keeping instruments clean and in their proper place. Keep an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count. Prepare for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifying conflicts or problems. Care appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case. Provide a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards to the surgeon, RN and assisting RN circulator in pre‑operative checks of equipment. Display knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the operating room. Utilize experienced OR staff as a resource, and act as a resource for new OR personnel. Assist in suturing, retracting, suctioning under direction of the surgeon. Handle and identify specimens per policy. Expedite the effective and efficient turn‑over of the OR between cases. Takes rotating call duty. Position Qualifications Meet the NYS Surgical Technologist Certification Law. Completed a Surgical Technologist program in the Armed Forces, OR completed a nationally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologist with a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist credential, or graduated an accredited school of Practical Nursing and has an active NY state LPN license. High School diploma or equivalent. CPR Certification within 3 months of hire. Preferred: Previous operating room experience. Preferred: Previous Surgical Technologist experience.
