Essential Functions 30% Performs journey-level inspections, repairs, installations, service, and maintenance of electrical systems including conduits, duct systems, light and power circuits, motors, generators, transformers, control equipment, switches and other types of electrical lighting and power components 20% Prepares and adheres to a schedule of periodic electrical system inspections and preventative maintenance; develops and maintains specifications and documentation for electrical systems and equipment 20% Performs cabling and wiring as necessary for the installation of computers and other equipment; computes loads requirements against available power sources, checks blueprints on new construction and remodeling to identify possible electrical maintenance problems; servers as electrical inspector of systems and equipment installations 20% Troubleshoots electrical problems of equipment, systems and components; performs electrical system redesigns and reconfigures; plans and estimates costs of special projects, maintains records, logs and system documentation; requisitions electrical supplies and materials 10% Cleans up after work is completed; performs general maintenance work; performs other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience performing electrician work equivalent to journey-level. OR High-School Diploma or GED and the successful completion of a recognized four (4) year electrician apprenticeship program, which includes hands-on training OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED. Special Requirements Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: 1. Journey-level card/license may be required based on assignment 2. Possession of a valid Arizona Driver License (Class D) may be required for some assignments 3. May require local/national electrical certifications associated with assignment Required licenses and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment within the classification. Licenses and certifications may be subject to renewal and/or require Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or training by the State or issuing authority. Desired Qualifications Five (5) or more years' experience performing electrical work in a commercial, educational or industrial complex to include installation, repairs and replacement of existing components. Five (5) years' experience developing and/or monitoring comprehensive preventive maintenance programs. Includes switch gear, transformers, emergency lighting and distribution systems. Five (5) years' experience problem solving complex electrical system issues. Five (5) years' experience working from blueprints, diagrams, and schematics. Five (5) years' experience leading other journey level electricians and training apprentices. One(1) year experience with a computerized maintenance management or work order system. Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations. Schedules may consist of shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, or otherwise non-standard work schedules and may involve "on-call" status and/or called in to work with short notice. Some work may be performed in an office/computer workstation and require the use of a computer and keyboard for training, to check emails, and/or communicate with coworkers and supervision. Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed in an indoor environment with moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, fumes, odors, poor ventilation, gasses, blood or other body fluids). Work may sometimes occur in dusty, seldom occupied, or newly renovated facilities and as such, moderate exposure to dust or other particulates can be expected. Some indoor work environments may not be air conditioned. Portions of work tasks may be completed outdoors which involve exposure to a variety of weather conditions, for short or long durations, including rain, wind, dust, cold temperatures and extreme desert heat. May require the use and climbing of ladders. Some work may be performed in an office/computer workstation and require the use of a computer and keyboard for training, to check emails, and/or communicate with coworkers and supervision. This classification may require that an incumbent be on their feet, standing or walking while performing duties, for the majority, if not all, of a work shift. Travel and Work Schedule: Travel to various locations at an assigned college or within the District is required. Schedules may consist of rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, or otherwise non-standard work schedules.
