About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) to support surgical teams within the Northwest Surgical Services region. The RNFA will work closely with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia personnel, and other healthcare professionals to provide specialized surgical assistance and high-quality patient care.
The position supports elective, urgent, and emergent surgical procedures and includes participation in a regional on-call rotation.

Key Responsibilities
Provide first-assist support during surgical procedures across multiple specialties.
Perform pre-operative patient assessment and review relevant clinical information.
Assist with patient positioning, preparation, draping, and surgical setup.
Provide surgical exposure and assist with tissue handling, clamping, cutting, ligating, and suturing as directed by the surgeon.
Maintain hemostasis and assist with surgical instruments and equipment.
Monitor sterile technique and surgical counts to maintain patient safety.
Assist with patient transfer and post-operative care.
Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia personnel, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
Maintain compliance with AORN standards, Oregon regulations, and organizational policies.
Required Qualifications
Active Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Successful completion of an AORN-recognized RNFA program.
2+ years of perioperative scrubbing and circulating experience OR 1+ year of RNFA experience.
Current BLS certification.
Required perioperative credentials, including CNOR as applicable.
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile technique.
Ability to work effectively across multiple surgical specialties.
Ability to participate in the regional on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of RNFA experience.
CRNFA certification.
ACLS certification, where applicable.
Schedule & Work Environment
This is an onsite permanent position with a Monday–Saturday schedule of 6:45 AM–5:15 PM. The selected candidate must be available for regional on-call coverage for elective, urgent, and emergent surgical cases.
