Assistant Principal

Under limited supervision, an assistant principal will implement policies, programs, and curriculum in an elementary or secondary environment that guides and promotes staff and students through effective leadership.

Essential Job Functions

1. Supports the principal in the general administration of the school. Effectively serves as back-up in the absence of the principal.

2. Collaboratively works to develop and establish objectives, performance goals, and instructional programs at both the school and staff level.

3. Performs observations of staff in accordance with the N.C. Department of Public Instruction instrument(s). Provide well rounded feedback inclusive of strengths and areas for improvement.

4. Promotes and maintains open communication with stakeholders such as, but not limited to, district administration, colleagues, subordinates, parents, students and community members.

5. Aids in the completion and accuracy of site-based records and reports from internal and external requests.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Establishes an effective school culture supporting mental health, curriculum, physical health, and wellbeing of the staff and students.

2. Participates in the completion of school safety practices and procedures including but not limited to fire drills, lock down drills, etc.

3. Aids in the monitoring and use of, in compliance with state and federal law, the school budget. I.e. requisitioning supplies and equipment.

4. Investigates student and employee relation matters in a timely and factual manner with follow up and follow through to principal or district resources as directed.

5. Coordinates school activities with principal for internal and external resources including but not limited to repair and maintenance activities, and school facilities use by community members.

6. Mentors, counsels, and guides staff and students while maintaining professional line of authority.

7. Defines and disseminates attendance and disciplinary procedures to subordinates, students, parents and community members 8. Supports school extracurricular activities as requested.

9. Effectively communicates in both a verbal and/or written manner with internal and external stakeholders with regard to educational, behavioral, safety, policies and procedures.

10. Strives to establish an environment with subordinates that is respectful, cooperative, and trustworthy.

11. Provide for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.

12. Other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential

Job Functions

• Master's degree in education or Demonstrated leadership in school related field based management
• North Carolina Principals License or School Administrators License
• Three (3) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher
