As an Operator in Training based in Farmington, NM, you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services – uninterrupted.  

Under supervision, performs a variety of tasks associated with learning the associated responsibilities of a certified water/wastewater operator – in preparation for receiving an entry-level certification.

Essential Functions:

• Under the direction of a certified Water or Wastewater Operator, performs tasks associated with the operations of a water or wastewater facility.

• Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent

• Reports operating problems to lead operator or supervisor and performs directed corrective action during assigned shift

• Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels

• Observes and reports abnormalities to Certified Operator

• After training, operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control

• After training, starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes

• Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings

• Learns and gains skill in a variety of equipment maintenance, servicing, and operating tasks. 

• Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties

• Understands and carries out oral and written directions

• Takes and records readings produced from the operation of equipment

• Learns to take samples and perform routine process laboratory tests and analysis under supervision of certified operator

• Daily and punctual attendance in the office and/or job site

• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work

• This position may be required to be available on an on-call basis for emergencies 

• Travel between work locations is required.

• Performs other related duties as assigned

• Level of supervision the employee receives

• Works under close supervision, employee’s work product is subject to close, continuous 

inspection.  

• Employee receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.

The base salary range for this position is $50,648.00 to $50,648.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
