Public Health Registered Nurse - Home Visitor

Public Health Registered Nurse – Nurse Home Visitor (NHV) Department – Health. Classified position. Grant‑funded position ending September2026. The role works under the guidance of the Public Health Nursing Manager within the Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home‑Visiting (MECSH) program. The NHV provides in‑home nursing services and health education to families, focusing on healthy pregnancies, positive parenting, and early childhood development. Essential Functions Administer general nursing care to patients in hospitals, clinics, mobile units, programs, and homes. Administer medications (reproductive/sexual health treatments, STI/HIV treatments, vaccinations) following physician or nurse practitioner orders or standing orders. Observe, record, and report patients’ reactions, responses, and general condition. Conduct utilization reviews and clinical quality assurance/improvement, preparing related reports. Consult with physicians, managers, or department heads on quality assurance/ utilization‑management issues and recommend solutions. Ensure nursing standards per division and department policies, procedures, and standing orders are met. Act as a preceptor, teaching nursing practices and orienting new personnel. Assume responsibilities for all clinical activities within nursing scope of practice as needed, including phlebotomy and laboratory procedures. Participate in community health outreach programs, child health conferences, school health programs, group instruction for parents/guardians, clinical services programs, home care services, etc. Participate in emergency preparedness exercises and serve as a core member of the clinical response team. Plan and participate in field research related to public health nursing. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with an Associate’s degree. Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Arizona (an active Nurse Licensure Compact is acceptable). Preferred Qualifications Bilingual (English/Spanish). Minimum of six months experience working in maternal‑child health. Minimum of six months experience working in home visiting. Selection Procedure The Human Resources Department will consider only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates who also meet preferred qualifications may be scored further. Successful candidates will be interviewed from a referral list and may undergo additional assessments or tests as required. Licenses and Certificates Current Nurse Licensure Compact or license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in Arizona. Valid Arizona driver license at time of application and appointment. Subject to a 39‑month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review. Background Pre‑employment background checks, including verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. Physical/Sensory Work Requirements Operate computers and other office equipment daily. Observe details at close range. Frequent movement within office and clinic settings. Attend community events, mobile sites, and home care visits. May sit on floor or crouch when working in home care environment. Working Conditions Clinic, office, and community settings providing direct patient care and education. Regular, daily attendance essential; alternative work schedules may be considered.
