We’re looking for an experienced Sr. Staff Software Engineer to join our Engineering team. This is a hybrid role, reporting in the Bellevue, WA office 3 days a week. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you’ll be responsible for: Designing and implementing scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs Ensuring code quality by writing and maintaining unit, integration, and performance tests; monitor, debug, and optimize system performance Mentoring junior engineers, fostering their growth, and upholding best practices through active participation in code reviews Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated solutions and contribute to Agile/Scrum processes like sprint planning and retrospectives Participating in on‑call rotation to support a highly available engineering platform and ensure compliance with federal guidelines What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications) 8+ years of experience with proficiency coding in a modern Object‑Oriented language Expertise in designing, analyzing, and resolving issues in large‑scale distributed systems Demonstrated exceptional problem‑solving skills and attention to detail for designing robust solutions Hands‑on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and one or more major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent professional experience), coupled with strong adaptability and the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced Agile environment What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications) Demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, and cross‑team collaboration skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, make high‑impact technical decisions, and drive initiatives with minimal oversight Proficiency with one or more AI code‑assistance tools (e.g., Windsurf, Cursor, Claude) to accelerate development, refactoring, unit test creation, and troubleshooting Exposure to DevOps automation workflows and CI/CD pipelines Zscaler’s salary ranges are benchmarked and are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job‑related skills, experience and relevant education or training. The base salary range listed for this full‑time position excludes commission/ bonus/ equity (if applicable) + benefits. Base Pay Range

$154,000—$220,000 USD
