The Department of Surgical Urology is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Nurse Practitioner (NP) or masters-prepared Physician Assistant (PA) to join the General Urology team at Penn Medicine University City (PMUC), located at Penn Presbyterian Hospital. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will play an integral role in providing comprehensive, high-quality outpatient urologic care to patients with a broad range of urologic conditions. This full-time position offers the opportunity to practice independently while contributing to the continued delivery and development of patient-centered general urology services within a multidisciplinary academic health system.

The APP will be responsible for independently evaluating and managing new and established patients, obtaining detailed medical histories, performing focused physical examinations, reviewing diagnostic studies, establishing diagnoses, and developing individualized treatment plans. The clinical scope will encompass a variety of common and complex general urologic conditions, including lower urinary tract symptoms, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), urinary incontinence, hematuria, nephrolithiasis, urinary retention, and other urologic concerns. The APP will also provide ongoing management of chronic urologic conditions, monitor treatment response, communicate diagnostic findings, and coordinate appropriate follow-up to promote continuity of care.

Working within the APPs scope of practice, the provider will exercise clinical judgment in determining appropriate diagnostic evaluations, initiating and adjusting medical management, interpreting laboratory and imaging results, and identifying patients who require further evaluation or intervention by an attending urologist. The APP will maintain clear communication with physicians and other members of the health care team when consultation or escalation of care is indicated, ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate treatment.

In addition to direct patient care, the APP will contribute to the efficient operation of the general urology practice through timely clinical documentation, management of diagnostic results, patient communication, referral coordination, and follow-up planning. The provider will be expected to manage an independent outpatient clinic schedule, prioritize patient needs, and support effective clinical workflows while maintaining a strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.

Responsibilities:

• Provides direct clinical care for patient population according to established protocols and utilizes evidence based practice standards in collaboration with team.
• Maintains accurate and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with organizational standards in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Identifies self properly to the patient and family, and clarifies the role of the nurse practitioner if necessary.
• The nurse practitioner should function within their scope and refer to the collaborating physician when outside of scope, and/or directed by the collaborating physician or when requested by the patient and/or family.
• Performs interventions specific to assigned patient population and collaborative agreement.
• Participates in the performance improvement processes to meet quality of care and service standards.
• Demonstrates awareness of professional responsibility as role model to peers and members of the health care team.
• Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patients clinical status.
• Addresses patient and family concerns and creates a therapeutic relationship to provide support.
• Provide patient education, counseling and instruction regarding patient diagnosis, medical treatments, medications, and preventative care.
• Participate in and support accreditation, compliance and regulatory activities of the organization.
• Precept NP students and other health care learners.
• Identifies patient/family needs for community resources and refers appropriately.

Credentials:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required)
• ACLS (For providers in the acute care setting) required.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
• BLS/CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association (For providers in the ambulatory setting) required.
• Certified Nurse PractitionerPA (Required)
• PA and/or NJ CRNP licensure (CRNP) required.
• Prescriptive Authority (Required)
• PA and/or NJ Prescriptive Authority required.
• Registered Nurse - PA (Required)
• PA and/or NJ RN licensure (RN) required. National Board Certification.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

• Master of Arts or Science (Required)
• Education Specialization: Master's Degree or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Nursing Equivalent Experience
• New to practice or < 2.5 years, The CRNP must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board.
