Registered Nurse (RN) - Critical Care Stepdown Unit

Overview Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Critical Care Stepdown Unit - PVSU (Progressive Ventilator Stepdown Unit). Up to $20,000 Sign‑On Bonus for qualified applicants. City/State: Norfolk, VA. Work Shift: Third (Nights). Hours/Shift: Full Time (36 hr/week). The RN provides competent nursing care using the nursing process. Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN must meet professional performance standards in ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health. Department Overview The PVSU is a 16‑bed step‑down unit specializing in patients on mechanical ventilators. Patients typically transfer from an ICU. The unit focuses on maximizing rehabilitation while treating the underlying illness through intensive physical therapy, respiratory care, and mental stimulation. Nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 3:1 based on acuity. New Graduate Program The unit welcomes new graduate nurses and experienced nurses transitioning into this specialty. The 11‑week Transition to Practice (TTP) program includes orientation, knowledge support, and skill acquisition. Graduates enter a comprehensive 6‑month residency program to support their transition to practice.
