WASTEWATER CLOSED-CIRCUIT TV OPERATOR

Salary $20.44 - $26.17 Hourly or Depending on Qualifications Job Summary Under limited supervision, operates specialized sewer cleaning and pipe assessment equipment (e.g. sewer televising equipment and jetter vacuum combination trucks) and initiates repairs, replacement, or rehabilitation to the sanitary sewer collection system. Responsibilities Acts as a lead on specific projects and provides training and oversight to entry-level personnel. Investigates service requests by responding and organizing activity in order to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of work personnel. Operates sewer-televising equipment. Controls camera unit in sewer lines and adjusts power control unit. Performs minor repairs on sewer camera equipment. Operates and maintains sewer cleaning and pipe assessment equipment (e.g. combination pressure cleaner/vacuum truck (combo), pressure cleaning vehicle, tanker style vacuum vehicle, collection system televising van) to clean and evaluate the condition of the sanitary sewer collection system. Assists in providing condition assessments of the sewer collection system. May use a computer to record data in work order systems. Accurately evaluates the condition of the sanitary sewer collection system, report, and records findings. Applies principles of confined space entries into the sanitary sewer collection system for inspection and cleaning as necessary. Identifies the presence of noxious and hazardous gases, liquids, and solids found in sanitary sewer systems and takes appropriate safety precautions. Attends to customer emergency and trouble calls related to the sanitary sewer system and resolves system problems in a polite and professional manner. Interprets street guides, as-built drawings, schematics, block maps, and construction plans. Manages field operations, provides reports, updates on progress and completion of projects. Works shift schedule and on-call and call-out duty as needed (Including nights, weekends, and holidays). Responsible for the setup of work zone for traffic control devices, directs traffic, and promotes and practices a safe working environment. Completes other job duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of construction and function of wastewater collection lines, water lines and related facilities. Knowledge of the safety requirements and operating characteristics of closed-circuit television inspection equipment. Knowledge of physical properties and handling requirements of chemicals used in formulating plastic injection gel. Computer skills including Microsoft Office. Effective communication skills (both oral and written) required in English, Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Skill in operating specialized inspection and repair equipment. Ability to read schematic diagrams, blueprint drawings, or civil engineering drawings. Ability to follow oral and written instructions with precision and efficiency. Ability to identify the presence of noxious and hazardous gases, liquids, and solids found in sanitary sewer lines and to take appropriate safety precautions. Ability to maintain the operation of the TV inspection equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, general public, and private consulting and construction firms. Ability to perform operational duties, operate vehicles day or night time to assure plant/ facilities reliability. Education & Experience Requirements High School Diploma or GED or U.S. Equivalency report required and three (3) years’ experience related to the operation of closed-circuit TV equipment and jetter-vacuum combination trucks in the maintenance of sanitary sewer systems. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Requires a Texas Commercial Driver’s License Class B with Tank Endorsement or receipt within 90 days of relocation to Texas and a safe driving record, as measured by company policy. Must currently possess a Texas Commission of Environmental Quality ( TCEQ ) Wastewater Collection License I, or a Wastewater Treatment Operator C license. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to walk up and down stairs as many as 50 times per day and carry up to 75 lbs. of tools and equipment. Ability to pull out pumps weighing up to 100 lbs. or more with help if available. Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, bend at waist, bend knees, lift, pull and push up to approximately 50 lbs. is required. Manual dexterity, good eye vision, a good uninterrupted loud voice, and good hearing conditions from low-level decibel to a high level of decibel are required. Ability to work in ambient conditions from 20 to up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Stretch reaching, overhead reaching, placing the body in awkward positions to perform work, working in elevated places, walking on level surfaces, and climbing stairways are required. Good physical condition to do continuous physical work for a minimum of eight hours is required. Must wear and properly utilize all required safety equipment including personal protective gear, trench protection, fall protection, self-contained breathing apparatus, and gas detection and monitoring equipment. Must pass the annual fit test requirements for use of a self-contained breathing apparatus and/or a respirator.
