Medical Laboratory Scientist - Oncology

Job Title Medical Laboratory Scientist – Oncology Department, James Laboratory Scope of Position The James Oncology Laboratory provides comprehensive, time‑sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses. Laboratory staff perform testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, blood gases analyzers, and assist with bone marrow procedures. The laboratory operates 24/7 and staff are available for on‑call emergency bone marrow assistance. The department also provides training for residents, new staff, and medical technology students. Position Summary Perform routine automated and manual laboratory procedures, verify and report test results. Handle phone inquiries regarding patient results, specimen collection, and testing frequency. Use the laboratory information system to review reports and call critical values to healthcare professionals. Document quality control, quality assurance, and preventative maintenance on instrumentation. Work under the direction of the lab manager and lead technologist(s). Minimum Education & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Med Lab Science, or biological science. MT/MLS certification required; if not certified, the applicant must obtain MLS certification within one year of hire, with the first board of certification test attempt within the first six months. Location & Schedule Location: James Cancer Hospital (0375) Position Type: Regular Scheduled Hours: 40 per week Shift: Third Shift (24/7 coverage) Background check required; drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
