This role involves monitoring patient conditions, managing pain, preventing complications, encouraging early mobility, preparing patients for their discharge home, and ensuring a safe recovery process. The Extended Recovery nurse will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, nurse navigators, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and maintain safety standards.Position detailsStatus: Full-TimeShift: NightsFTE / Hours: 0.9 / 36Schedule: Three (3) 12-Hour Shifts + Weekend/Holiday Rotation; 6:45pm - 7:15amPosition RequirementsEducation: Graduate of an accredited school/college of nursing required. Bachelor's degree preferred.Licensure: Registered Nursing licensed in the State of Nebraska or eligible compact state required.Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) to be acquired within 90 days of hire or transfer date required.Experience: 1+ Years of RN (Registered Nurse) Experience preferred.Required Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesStrong knowledge of post-operative orthopedic care, including pain management and mobility assistanceProficiency in IV therapy, wound care, patient assessment, and vital sign monitoringAbility to recognize and respond to complications including respiratory distress and infectionExcellent communication and patient education skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environmentProficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation of patient assessments and interventionsStrong critical thinking and problem-solving skillsEssential Job FunctionsPatient Care and MonitoringConduct comprehensive nursing assessments post-surgeryMonitor vital signs, pain levels, and overall patient conditionAdminister medications including pain management protocolsAssist patients with mobility ensuring safety and adherence to post op restrictionsClinical Support and Emergency ResponseIdentify signs of post operative complications and intervene appropriatelyProvide wound care, monitor for infections, and manage post anesthesia side effectsInitiates action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risk(s) to the patient, family or hospital employees (i.e., falls, needle sticks, patient concerns).Communication and DocumentationMaintain accurate and timely medical recordsCommunicate effectively with patients and families, addressing concerns and providing education about recovery expectations.Operational ResponsibilitiesMaintains a professional behavior in attitudes, demeanor, interactions across departments to achieve the organizations mission of providing efficient, high-quality patient centered careComply with safety activities, policies and procedures and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and The Joint CommissionAdheres to HIPPA regulations and maintains patient confidentialityFollow established guidelines as stated in hospital and departmental policies and proceduresAssist in onboarding and training new nursing staffEmployee is responsible for all other duties as assigned for which competency has been demonstrated.Physical requirements: This position is classified as Medium Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.Must be able to pass background check. We also conduct pre-employment physical and drug testing.
