ESL Teacher

POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR ST. CLAIR COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM Board Approved December 17, 2018 TITLE: ESL Teacher JOB GOAL: To coordinate the assessment, placement, and instruction of ESL students in a designated service area. To serve as a resource to the staff and faculty at each of the schools in the assigned area through large group in-service and individual consultations. To work collaboratively with the Federal Programs Coordinator to develop program guidelines and to compile program data. FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Principal and Federal Programs Coordinator

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Possess and maintain a valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate Certification in English as a Second Language (ESL) Knowledge of curriculum development, effective classroom practices, and professional development Good public relations skills Ability to understand the unique needs and learning characteristics of students Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 Knowledge and ability to use and facilitate the use of various forms of education technology to assist in instructional practices Superior leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and ability to be an instructional leader across multiple settings. Must work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications with the ability to produce, lead, and deliver presentations to various stakeholders Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs Ability to plan and implement lessons and professional development based on system and state courses of study and the needs and abilities of students Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers, parents, and administrators Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Demonstrates support for the school system, its purpose, direction, and Demonstrates the ability to multi-task, to delegate appropriately, and to prioritize tasks Maintains confidentiality of any Board of Education business, its staff, and its students. Conducts in-service training for classroom teachers, administrators, and support personnel regarding ESL Schedules meetings of the ESL team to review pertinent information and make recommendations concerning the placement of each student in the ESL Monitors the academic progress of all ESL students in the regular program and makes recommendations to the regular classroom teachers concerning instructional modifications for ESL Provides ESL instruction to K-12 ESL Utilizes technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate student Attends professional development training each year regarding ESL programs enrolled in the designated service Collaborates with the Federal Programs Coordinator in maintaining the summer migrant Administers placement tests and spring ACCESS assessments to ESL students in the designated service Collaborates with the Operations Director, local school administration, and counselors in identifying maintenance Supervises students as Supervises mentees and student teachers as Communicates, through written/electronic correspondence, with parents/guardians about student progress, concerns, and academic achievement. Interprets and uses data for instructional planning and teaching, and program evaluation. Participates in district meetings, state meetings, and other activities that relate to professional development and effective school instruction as approved by the school Participates in the school improvement process and the implementation of school improvement plans, accreditation and accountability reports, and other required plans. Demonstrates high-expectations for self and for students, and creates an environment that has goals that are both rigorous and Participates in the evaluation process using state and locally approved evaluation tools. Demonstrates initiative to improve job performance and in areas of Reports absences and takes leave in accordance to board policy and procedures; prepares for substitute in accordance to board policy and school procedures.
