DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Within this role, you will participate in a six-month training program in which you will learn the specialized duties of a Transportation Equipment Operator A. This trainee position will help you learn to safely operate equipment and perform manual labor tasks needed for highway and bridge maintenance. As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee, you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Training: Train to operate heavy trucks, loaders, and other maintenance equipment
• Control Use: Operate hand and foot controls, use seat belts, and install or remove tire chains
• Manual Labor: Use motorized and non motorized tools to complete tasks such as cutting brush, repairing guiderails, and cleaning culverts
• Tool Care: Select tools properly, minimize wear, and report broken or missing equipment
• Safety Practices: Follow safety procedures, report incidents promptly, and stay aware of hazards in the work area
• Environmental Compliance: Apply environmental protection requirements and complete training responsibilities for the role

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Hours may vary and overtime may be required during weather events.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
• All employees must possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work.
• All positions require employees to possess an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations by the first day of work.
