Floor Technician

Overview Performs special floor-specific cleaning projects as well as daily floor cleaning duties in accordance with standard procedures and contract objectives. Operates various types of equipment used for floor care maintenance, such as auto scrubbers, floor machines, wet/dry vacuums, burnishers, vacuums, sweepers, pressure wash equipment, and carpet extractors. Provides daily preventive maintenance on all equipment used. Ensure all equipment is cleaned and stored properly. Location and Hours Chapel Hill Elementary School Hours: 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm (Monday–Friday) Responsibilities Dust mopping floors Mopping and burnishing floors (buffing) Strip and re-wax floors based on a floor care schedule Top scrub as needed Ensure all baseboards, corners, and edges are free of debris and wax buildup Sweep, mop, scrub, and/or vacuum floors Spot clean carpets Steam-clean or shampoo carpets as needed or as required by the contract Use electrically powered scrubbing and polishing machines to burnish, scrub, polish and spray-clean floors (after receiving proper instruction and training) Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures Use chemical agents as directed by the Supervising Officer in the discharge of cleaning operations or maintenance procedures, after training Other duties as assigned Requirements Abilities / Key Competencies / Skills At least 3 years proven working experience as a cleaner Ability to handle heavy janitorial equipment/tools Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies, proper storage and disposal methods, and techniques for cleaning Excellent communication skills with the ability to follow verbal directions Ability to work well alone, or with a partner or team Reliable and punctual with a dedicated professionalism to job and duties Able to adapt to changing schedules or routines Excellent time management skills Pays attention to detail when cleaning Education High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience; or knowledge, skills, and mental ability equivalent to 2 years of high school education Language English preferred and/or Spanish Scope / Complexity Ability to stand for long lengths, walk, bend, reach, stretch, push, pull and lift repetitively during working hours.
