Part-Time Educational Consultant

Position Summary

The Educational Consultant provides individualized college planning and application guidance to students and families. The consultant evaluates each student’s academic profile, interests, goals, and college aspirations while helping students develop a strategic, organized, and personalized path toward college enrollment.

The consultant serves as a guide, advocate, and source of accountability throughout the process. Students remain active participants in their college planning, and consultants provide guidance and recommendations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Advising and College Planning

• Review academic records, coursework, grades, GPA, and overall academic progress.
• Provide guidance on course selection, academic planning, testing, extracurricular involvement, and career or major exploration.
• Help students identify colleges and develop a balanced college list based on their academic profile, interests, goals, and preferences.
• Guide students and families through the college search and application process, including timelines, requirements, deadlines, and application components.
• Provide feedback and guidance on essays and written responses while preserving the student’s authentic voice and ensuring the student remains the primary author.
• Create individualized action plans, provide accountability, and help students take ownership of their college planning process.

Client Communication and Case Management

• Build and maintain professional relationships with students and families.
• Serve as a consistent point of contact for assigned clients.
• Communicate clearly regarding appointments, deadlines, recommendations, progress, and next steps.
• Maintain accurate student records, meeting notes, tasks, and deadlines within the company’s designated systems.
• Prepare for and conduct student and family meetings.
• Help manage expectations regarding the roles and responsibilities of the student, family, and consultant.

Company Support

• Contribute to educational content, social media, marketing, outreach, and company initiatives.
• Assist with improving client resources, services, and internal processes.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in counseling, education, higher education, psychology, student affairs, or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with high school students, college students, families, or in education, counseling, college admissions, or a related field.
• Excellent communication, organization, research, and time-management skills.
• Ability to build rapport with teenagers and communicate effectively with parents and guardians.
• Ability to manage multiple students, families, deadlines, and responsibilities.
• Professional judgment, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.
• Proficiency with technology, scheduling systems, client management platforms, and common office software.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Position Type

Hourly

August - December hours are expected to be around 25/week. Must be able to work on Sundays during the Fall season. As this position works with high school students, hours must accommodate their schedules. Typical working hours can vary from 2 pm - 7 pm.
