Company: Overland Contracting Inc Job Title: 1070 - Laborer Apprentice 1 (Solar) Location: Lake Cormorant, MS, US (PJLAKECOR) Job Summary Shadow Solar Technician assembles, installs, or maintains solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on uneven terrain, roofs, or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. Tasks may include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules supporting systems. Key Responsibilities Use appropriate hand tools (e.g., crescent wrench, pliers, hammer, screwdriver) and power tools (e.g., drills, impact wrenches) to install photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions. Lay‑out, assemble, and install solar modules/panels and support structures as specified. Install structural, mechanical rack systems, and PV panels. Lift, carry, and hold building materials, tools, and supplies; clean tools, equipment, material, and work areas. Maintain a clean‑as‑you‑go policy and leave work areas clean before departure. Participate in all safety‑related processes and programs as requested. Engage with the work team to achieve zero injuries, watch for hazards, and report concerns to the supervisor or safety professional. Use stop‑work authority if needed. Report all accidents and near‑misses to the supervisor; participate in investigations as needed. Participate in pre‑job work planning and safety discussions; identify safety hazards and take corrective actions to eliminate or mitigate them. Respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., backup alarms, smoke odor, warning tags, sirens). Understand, support, and follow lockout/tag‑out procedures. Attend site‑specific training and follow procedures outlined in training. Follow established safety rules and maintain a safe and clean work environment. Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Perform basic arithmetic quickly and accurately. Listen to co‑workers’ suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations; ask questions and provide feedback when appropriate. Coordinate work with other crafts and co‑workers on the job. Actively participate in on‑the‑job training and mentoring opportunities with co‑workers. Produce quality work that meets requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards. Learn to read and understand plans and specifications; visualize two‑dimensional drawings in three dimensions. Assist in storage, planning, and layout of materials per plans and specifications; learn to perform layout independently. Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. Notify supervision of hazards and use stop‑work authority as needed. Examine field conditions, identify problems, inaccuracies, and continuous‑improvement opportunities. Take corrective actions and report issues to supervision. If certified to operate equipment, ensure construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, in good working order, and complete daily equipment inspections. Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies. Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing principal duties and accountabilities. Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision. Perform all other job‑related duties as requested by the supervisor. Preferred Qualifications NCCER Construction Craft Laborer NCCER Core Curriculum NCCER Ironworker NCCER Concrete Finishing NCCER Solar Photovoltaic Systems Installer or equivalent Craft Training Program Minimum Qualifications 0–6 months of experience or 0–1,000 hours working as a laborer or helper in any construction craft. Develop knowledge of the assembly, installation, or maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Ability to understand and follow directions. Must have all necessary tools (see Solar Tool List). Must be at least 18 years of age. All applicants must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, which may include a criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Certifications NCCER Construction Craft Laborer NCCER Core Curriculum NCCER Ironworker NCCER Concrete Finishing NCCER Solar Photovoltaic Systems Installer or equivalent Craft Training Program Work Environment / Physical Demands Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 52 pounds. Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas; see and hear naturally or with correction. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties. Requires hand use to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls according to a set procedure. Requires repetitive movement. Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions. Requires extensive walking throughout shift. Additional PPE may be required such as Kevlar sleeves. Requires working in cramped workspaces and awkward positions. Requires working in very hot (above 90 °F) or very cold (below 32 °F) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions. Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Work around hazardous equipment. This position is considered a safety‑sensitive position.
