Are you an experienced mechanic ready for hands-on vehicle repairs? Join our team and play a key role in keeping our operations running smoothly. The primary purpose of this organizational unit is to maintain, service, and repair motor vehicles operated by the State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) and other state law enforcement agencies that utilize regional garages for vehicle support. Responsibilities include performing scheduled preventive maintenance; diagnosing and repairing vehicle malfunctions; completing warranty repairs on new vehicles; addressing manufacturer-issued recalls; and verifying repair quality through road testing. The unit is also responsible for installing specialized NCSHP equipment on new vehicles prior to deployment and removing equipment from vehicles being retired from service. Additionally, the garage oversees the procurement, storage, and distribution of gasoline and motor oil for state-owned vehicles. This position is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on NCSHP and other state law enforcement vehicles across all service areas. The role requires delivering reliable, high-quality service that promotes confidence and trust among vehicle operators. Additional responsibilities include providing vehicle-related support for special assignments involving uniformed personnel, maintaining a safe and organized work environment, and ensuring efficient garage operations. - Ability to perform several widely varying and diverse assignments that require in-depth knowledge analysis and diagnostic work.
- Ability to read and interpret Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals and us diagnostic tools to diagnose and determine best course of action for complex system repairs.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex vehicle repairs using the proper tools, resources, equipment and training.
- Ability to identify problems, determines solutions, and actively work to resolve these issue
- Perform regular preventive maintenance every 6,000 miles, diagnosing and repairing motor vehicle problems on NCSHP and other state law enforcement vehicles.
- Completing warranty repairs on new motor vehicles within the coverage mileage and date, repairing and correcting motor vehicle recalls issued by the manufacturer and verifying repairs by test driving the motor vehicle. Installing NCSHP equipment on new motor vehicles for issuance to enforcement members and removing equipment from motor vehicles taken out of service.

- Utilizing a rollback wrecker to transport NCSHP and other agencies' vehicles.
- Utilizing specific software programs developed by Ford, GM or Chrysler to troubleshoot routine and complex vehicle repairs.
- Identifying problems, determining possible solutions and actively working to resolve issues.
- Maintaining a safe and clear work area conducive to efficient operations and following all OSHA and State regulations pertaining to motor vehicle repair.
