Lead Respiratory Therapist

Job Summary Responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of an assigned shift using independent judgment to assure successful and safe delivery of care. Facilitates onboarding and precepting under the guidance of the direct lead. Serves as a clinical resource/support to the staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments by providing direct patient care, medication administration, and ensuring equipment resources and function. May also serve as a patient assignment lead and support promotion and execution of PI initiatives. Responsibilities Leads the shift and ensures safe patient care by analyzing patients’ needs and staff competency levels for patient assignments. Facilitates interdisciplinary communication and planning for timely care delivery, including discharge. Communicates with direct leader regarding needs or concerns related to patient care delivery or employee performance. Assists in evaluating staff, providing input to the supervisor regarding clinical performance and teamwork. Assigns shift workload and preceptors. Maintains financial stewardship in relation to productivity. Maintains daily equipment function and calibration. Monitors equipment inventory, location, and utilization to ensure staff have necessary tools. Assists in acquiring appropriate staffing levels. Provides clinical assistance to staff as necessary. Assists with orientation and training for new employees and student clinical rotations. Assists with annual skill competencies. Communicates educational needs of staff (e.g., huddles, new equipment or knowledge in‑services). Maintains staff education records. Maintains current knowledge related to patient population to deliver the highest standard of care. Identifies learning needs of the workgroup and communicates them to the direct leader. Promotes process improvement and committee participation. Rounds on patients to evaluate quality and appropriateness of patient care, including corrective action when needed. Participates in implementation and monitoring of PI, Customer Service, and Safety and Quality initiatives to improve patient care delivery. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Licenses & Certifications Associates Respiratory Therapy or Bachelor’s Respiratory Therapy (preferred). NBRC Credentials (required for new hires after 11/13/2022): ACCS, AE‑C, NPS, RPFT (AE‑C certifications prior to September 1, 2022 issued by the National Asthma Educator Certification Board). BLS – Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS – American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor. ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC‑ALS – American Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS‑I – ACLS – Instructor. PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support or ARC‑PALS – American Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS‑I – PALS – Instructor or PALS‑P – PALS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days. NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program or ARC‑NALS – American Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support or NRP‑I – NRP – Instructor or NRP‑P – NRP – Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days. NBRC‑RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapy. RCP – Respiratory Care Professional. Neonatal Resuscitation Provider within 180 Days (preferred) or NRP – Instructor within 180 Days (preferred). Experience Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in critical care areas such as Adult ICU, CVICU, BURN, NICU, and Emergency Departments (Adult and Pediatric). Required 100 credit hours toward a BS degree may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. Skills Clinical assessment and direct patient care. Leadership and staff evaluation.
