Tool and Die Maker

Builds, repairs, and maintains metal stamping tools using machining operations and measuring instruments on pierce, form, deep draw, and progression dies. Plans, coordinates and records routine maintenance schedules for all dies and tools. Works from blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions to create or modify tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures needed for production, assembly and quality control. Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts, tools and dies, for conformance to specifications, using instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. Conduct test runs with tools or dies to ensure parts meet specifications; adjust as necessary. Inspect tools and dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects. Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance. Understand heat-treating principles and be able to set pyrometer controls of heat-treating furnaces, and feed or place parts, tools, or assemblies into furnaces to harden. Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribe dimensions or finishes. Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates. Inspect and troubleshoot production equipment to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects and make necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet specifications. Fabricate and install parts required in the repair and maintenance of plant equipment. Maintain adequate preventative maintenance such as cleaning and lubricating machining equipment used daily. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Travel Requirements N/A Licenses / Certifications N/A Work Conditions This job operates in an industrial manufacturing environment exposure to varying temperatures, loud noise levels, dust, fumes, oil, or other outdoor elements. This role requires regular standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods of time. Climbing stairs/ladders, squatting, sitting, operating machinery, and may require lifting to 50lbs, and must be able to wear PPE as required. This is a full-time position and may require some overtime including nights and weekend work.
