Role Description
This role sits at the center of engineering velocity — responsible for how 50+ engineers build, test, and ship software every day.
- Own the end-to-end developer experience across build, test, and deployment systems for a large engineering organization.
- Lead the evolution of a large JavaScript/TypeScript monorepo used by 50+ engineers.
- Reduce build and CI times through tooling, caching, and architectural improvements.
- Implement and scale modern monorepo tooling (e.g., TurboRepo, Bazel, Nx).
- Improve testing infrastructure, visibility, and reliability across multiple engineering teams.
- Design systems to improve developer iteration speed and reduce cross-team blocking dependencies.
- Own observability and operational excellence across build/test/deploy pipelines.
- Support multi-region and multi-cloud infrastructure used in production systems.
- Partner closely with product engineering teams to identify friction points in development workflows.
- Drive engineering-wide standards for code quality, testing, and release processes.
- Act as a force multiplier for engineering productivity across the org.
Qualifications
- 8–15 years of experience in backend or developer productivity engineering.
- Strong experience in developer tooling, build systems, or monorepo infrastructure.
- Experience working in engineering organizations scaling from ~40 to 100+ engineers.
- Deep expertise in TypeScript / JavaScript ecosystems.
- Strong systems design fundamentals and understanding of distributed system behavior.
- Hands-on experience improving CI/CD pipelines, build performance, or developer workflows.
- Experience implementing or scaling tools like TurboRepo, Bazel, or Nx.
- Strong CS fundamentals (degree in CS/CE preferred from top universities).
- Experience at high-growth startups or top-tier engineering organizations.
Requirements
- Preferred experience at companies like Vercel, Stripe, Databricks, Plaid, Ironclad, etc.
- Background in developer platforms, build systems, or internal tooling teams.
- Experience working on multi-cloud or multi-region distributed systems.
- Exposure to event-driven architectures or large-scale backend systems.
- Prior experience owning engineering productivity across multiple teams.
- Strong ability to influence engineering culture and technical direction.
