JOB OVERVIEW Provide services and support as a Archeological Study (Historian/GIS Specialist) in the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, And Hunting Industry Sector focusing on Environmental Services Solutions for clients such as National Park Service (NPS) | Department of the Interior Located In Prince William County, Virginia and across the Region. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES - Historian & GIS SpecialistConduct historical research to support archaeological investigations and contextualize findings.Develop and manage GIS databases and create detailed maps illustrating archaeological site boundaries, locations, and survey areas.Coordinate with the Lead Archaeologist to integrate historical and GIS data into the Phase I Archaeological Survey Report.Prepare draft GIS layers for review by the NPS Cultural Resource GIS Data Manager and finalize them based on feedback.Ensure all GIS data conforms to NPS cultural resource data transfer standards and includes FGDC compliant metadata.Assist in preparing and delivering the final GIS layers and related documentation within 300 days of NTP.QualificationsDesired Qualifications For Historian & GIS Specialist Candidates:Expertise in historical research and analysis related to cultural and archaeological contexts.Proficiency in GIS software and techniques, with experience in creating and managing geospatial data related to archaeological sites.Ability to integrate historical data with GIS layers to support archaeological investigations.Experience in producing detailed and accurate GIS maps and databases in compliance with federal standards.Knowledge of cultural resource data transfer standards and metadata requirements. Education / Experience Requirements / Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in History, Historical Geography, Archaeology, or a related field with a focus on GIS.At least 3-5 years of experience in historical research and GIS applications related to cultural and archaeological contexts.Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) and the creation and management of geospatial data.Demonstrated ability to integrate historical research with GIS data and produce accurate and detailed maps and reports.Knowledge of cultural resource data transfer standards and metadata requirements. Skills Required GIS Proficiency: Expertise in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) for creating, managing, and analyzing spatial data.Historical Research: Strong skills in historical research and data integration.Data Management: Ability to handle and interpret cultural resource data and maintain metadata standards.Mapping Skills: Experience in producing detailed, accurate maps and geospatial analyses.Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in data entry, analysis, and reporting.Technical Skills: Proficiency in using software for data visualization and presentation.
