POSITION SUMMARY

The Automation Engineer supports the design, build, and implementation of automated systems for in the manufacturing of optical filters at Alluxa. Projects may include PLC, collaborative robots, SCADA, motion control, and vision systems. Applications include optical measurement systems, part handling, thin film deposition equipment. Work within an experienced team of machine designers, production engineers, and R&D scientists. All duties require a commitment to safety, quality, accuracy, and execution with excellence through continuous improvement, performance, integrity, and respect for people and the Company's values.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and manage the fabrication of industrial automation systems
• Develop software for control and user interface of automation systems
• Specify and integrate sensors, motion control axes, power distribution, safety, and other industrial controls equipment.
• Manage automation projects from concept, detailed design, build, and commissioning.
• Specify and integrate sensors, motion control axes, and other industrial controls equipment.
• Develop software for control and user interface of automation systems
• Specify and/or design visions systems and integrate with collaborative robots
• Troubleshoot, maintain, and improve existing automated systems
• Adhere to Company quality policy, environmental policy, sustainability policy, and safety programs.
• Work collaboratively with supervisor and other engineering personnel as well as work independently.
• Other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering or related field with 3+ years' experience.
• Demonstrated success in designing and commissioning industrial automation systems.
• PLC code development of Siemens or Allen Bradley PLCs.
• Inductive Automation Ignition & Perspective or other SCADA software
• Ability to work with manufacturing team to understand the problem, develop a solution, and provide continued support
• Attention to detail and self-motivation to deliver work to the highest standards.
• Strong foundation of interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written as well as listening.
• Creative and flexible, yet a disciplined approach to process and engineering design.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
• Strong work ethic displaying consistent dependability, reliability, and initiative.
• U.S. Person per EAR Part 772 AND ITAR 120.15

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in vacuum coating, optics, or semiconductor field
• Software development for Universal Robots or equivalent
• Proficiency in coding (preferably C# or Python).
• AutoCAD Electrical or other schematic drawing software
• MySQL Database or equivalent
• Working with a wide range of sensors and actuators, and designing circuits/systems that interface with them
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Experience working in a fast paced, innovative, high-quality engineering and manufacturing environment. Ability to work well under pressure
• Project management experience
• Excellent computer skills - Microsoft Office Suite (Word; Excel)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Work within a manufacturing environment
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
• Clarity of vision to see near and mid-range.
• While performing duties of this job, this role will regularly be required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms.
• The noise level in the manufacturing environment is moderate, but occasionally can be loud.
• Temperature is moderate within work environment.

These considerations can cause offered compensation to vary. The hiring range for this position is typically $91,992 - $137,988 annually. Actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
