Member of Technical Staff, Economics Research

Shape how AI systems reason through complex economic research, empirical analysis, and policy challenges. In this remote, full-time role, you will develop rigorous evaluation methods, datasets, and benchmarks for economics-focused AI models and agentic workflows. Role Overview

Working at the intersection of large language models, agentic systems, and economics, you will conduct applied research and build evaluation frameworks that measure and improve AI performance on economic reasoning and research tasks. You will collaborate with researchers, economists, engineers, and product teams to advance economics-focused AI capabilities.

• Design and refine evaluation frameworks for AI in economic domains, including benchmarks, scoring methods, and quality rubrics.
• Research economic reasoning and empirical analysis, then translate findings into measurable model improvements.
• Create datasets, test cases, and benchmark environments based on real-world economic research and policy challenges.
• Evaluate and improve economics-focused AI models and agentic systems with cross-functional partners.
• Analyze model behavior and failure modes to identify research opportunities and improve performance.
• Apply econometrics, causal inference, and statistical analysis to assess AI capabilities on economic tasks.
• Produce technical reports, research findings, and best practices for AI evaluation in economics.
• Incorporate relevant advances in AI, econometrics, and economic research into evaluation methodologies.

• PhD in Economics or a closely related quantitative field.
• 3 to 5 years of post-PhD experience in applied economic research in industry, academia, or public policy.
• Expertise in labor economics, macroeconomics, industrial organization, productivity, technological change, AI economics, or a related area.
• Strong background in econometrics, applied microeconomics, and causal inference.
• Experience using SQL and statistical programming languages such as Python or R to work with large datasets.
• Demonstrated empirical research or analytical-methodology development experience.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Experience producing research papers, technical reports, or policy briefs and collaborating with research, engineering, product, or policy teams.

• Experience developing or evaluating economics-focused AI, agentic workflows, or benchmarking environments.
