Senior Mental Health Nurse

About the Role We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mental Health Nurse at HMP Lewes to join our team. HMP Lewes is a category B male prison located near the centre of Lewes, a five‑minute walk from the town centre. Due to the prison holding remand prisoners, staff work on a rota basis and may be required to work nights, bank holidays and weekends. Salary: up to £54,397 per annum (depending on experience). What You'll Be Doing Lead a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver a nurse‑led service and prevent hospital admissions. Undertake medication rounds and dispense controlled medication. Attend emergency response situations. Assess patients and undertake reception screening. Use an evidence‑based framework to assess patients' health needs and conduct risk assessments. Assess physical and mental health of prisoners on admission and throughout custody to inform appropriate referrals. Make clinical judgements regarding immediate needs and long‑term treatment plans. Qualifications Registered Nurse – Mental Health. Current professional qualification (NMC). Evidence of continued professional development. Experience of multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working. Non‑judgmental and compassionate approach. Understanding of mental health policy, clinical governance and national standards such as NICE. Ability to assess and manage patient risk effectively.
