RN - ICU

ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Join our dynamic Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team, which includes a mixed unit of MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU, divided into pods. Our facility has 39 beds and focuses on providing exceptional care to complex ICU patients.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience (preferred).
• If only 1.5 years of ICU experience is present, a significant amount of RN experience outside ICU is required for management approval.
• Previous travel experience: Candidates must have at least one completed travel assignment.
• Must reside at least 100 miles away from any local facility.
• Cardiac experience is preferred, especially with CABG/TAVR patients within 24 to 48 hours post-op.
• Must be willing to obtain required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC prior to arrival.
• Completion of an accredited nursing education program; Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Dakota.

Patient Types

• Work with a diverse patient population including:
• Surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro, and trauma patients.
• Diagnoses may include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac catheterization, post-surgical care, and multiple system trauma.

Required Skills

• Epic experience is necessary.
• Comfortable working 48 hours per week.
• Experience with IV medications, including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics.
• Ability to manage hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry.
• Strong critical thinking and assessment skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience preferred with Impella, IABP, and CRRT.

Unit Support

• CNA support: 1-2 Nurse Aides per unit, plus mobility float aide.
• Charge nurse: Two Clinical Registered Nurses (CRNs) overseeing all ICUs.
• Phlebotomy provided for peripheral blood draws only.
• ICU CRNs will place midlines; Resource Nurse available based on staffing.
• 24/7 respiratory therapy support.
• Physician support includes three intensivists during the day and two at night, with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) available on nights.

Orientation & Scheduling

Complete a well-structured orientation including:

• 8-hour hospital orientation.
• 4-hour session for completing iLearns.
• Two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation.
• One additional 12-hour shift for travelers to meet hour requirements.

Weekend rotation: Every other weekend is preferred but not guaranteed. No requests for time off during holidays or major local events.
