Network Field Technician

Compensation: Base $49,000. Comprehensive benefits: Health (medical, vision, dental), short term disability, AAE, & pension.

Summary: To install, maintain, and repair low-voltage cabling, network infrastructure, and audio-visual and security systems across district buildings, including structured cabling, equipment racks and servers, wireless access points, paging speakers, AV/projection systems, and security cameras. Coordinates with the district's network engineer/IT department on network configuration and device commissioning.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED Trade or vocational school diploma OR two years' experience in low-voltage cabling, network installation, or a related electrical/telecommunications trade, or a combination of training and experience that equates to three years BICSI Installer 1/2, ETA Fiber Optic Technician (FOT), AVIXA CTS, or equivalent low-voltage/structured cabling certification preferred Ability to input and manipulate data using a computer Working knowledge of structured cabling, network hardware, and AV/security device installation, and mechanical aptitude Knowledge and ability to operate tools of the trade, including cable testers/certifiers, punch-down tools, and crimpers Availability to work beyond the normal work day/work week Required physical examination as performed by a licensed physician Required criminal history background check, drug screening and eligibility to work in the United States Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. Ability to climb ladders up to 20 feet and safely operate lifts when mounting access points, cameras, speakers, and AV equipment Sufficient physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of the job, including work in ceilings, attics, and confined spaces, and heavy work with exposure to inclement weather for prolonged periods of time Conscientiousness and keen attentiveness to detail Must be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment, as necessary Ability to read, write, communicate effectively, and understand and follow verbal and written instructions

Essential Performance Responsibilities (The following description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.) The Low Voltage / Network Field Technician will: Install low-voltage conduit, cable channel, and cable pathways (J-hooks, cable trays) to route structured cabling Pull, dress, and terminate Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A cabling, RJ45 Ethernet plugs, keystone jacks, and patch panels per TIA/EIA-568 and BICSI standards Test and certify cable runs; troubleshoot opens, shorts, split pairs, and miswires Build and dress patch cords and cross-connects; maintain patch panel-to-switch port mapping and labeling Install and ground equipment racks; rack-mount servers, network switches, and UPS/power distribution units Mount and cable wireless access points, paging/intercom speakers, AV systems and projectors, and interior/exterior IP security cameras, including PoE cabling and weatherproof exterior installations Verify PoE power delivery and troubleshoot power-related device failures Assign IP addresses to cameras and the server, and add cameras to the server, per the network engineer's IP scheme; refer all further network configuration (VLANs, port configuration, firmware, stream/recording setup) to the network engineer/IT department Produce and maintain as-built cable plant documentation, labeling schema, and port maps Ensures maintenance requests and work orders are completed satisfactorily Refers work requiring more specialized attention or skilled craftsmanship to the appropriate trade lead or network engineer and follows up through completion Follows PPE, electrical safety, ESD, fire-rated penetration/firestopping, and confined-space work practices Maintains tools and equipment required for installation and maintenance tasks Maintains an accurate inventory of low-voltage equipment and supplies Makes emergency repairs within knowledge and responsibility Daily vehicle inspection Attends professional development events as required by district administration Performs such duties as assigned by the Network Engineer and/or Facilities Department Administration. Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job with reasonable accommodations, if necessary Drives rental vehicles for moving, transportation, etc. Moves equipment and materials from building to building Coordinates with facilities staff, IT/network engineering staff, vendors, and contractors on installation scheduling and device handoff Performs general maintenance duties as needed which may be assigned in one or more of the following areas: Carpentry, Driving, Electrical, Landscaping, HVAC, Locksmith, Masonry, Painting, Plumbing, Inventory Control, and Operate Snow plow and salter Perform any other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification that may be assigned.
