Purpose: The School Nurse shall maintain, promote and improve physical, emotional and social health of the school-age child. To accomplish these tasks, the School Nurse works closely with the staff and administration of the District. Responsible to: Superintendent and Principal(s) Payment rate: According to Classified Salary Schedule Qualifications: Graduate of a school of professional nursing. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made). Current license to practice as a professional nurse. Informed about improvement in the field. Meet relicensure requirements through conferences, seminars, State meetings, professional study, group discussions, school visitations and travel. Experience in using various computers and computer programs. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance. Essential Functions: Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the District. Ability to coordinate efficient operation of the health program. Ability to ensure all activities conform to District guidelines. Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community. Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned. Good communication skills, polite, courteous, and helpful. Ability to appropriately operate all equipment as required. Ability to train staff as needed. Ability to maintain appropriate records. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: Requires prolonged sitting or standing, and use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions. Must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time efficiently and courteously. Must be able to work without continuous supervision. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials, up to 30 pounds. General Responsibilities: Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times. Ability to contact parents to inform them of their child's injury or other health concerns. Ability to maintain appropriate first aid supplies and materials. Ability to report accidents to the appropriate individuals and/or departments. Ability to serve as a resource person for health education. Ability to provide First Aid information and Blood Borne Pathogens training annually for district. Ability to maintain required and appropriate health records. Ability to assist with enrollment as required. Ability to establish a working relationship with the local medical and dental community and other health services. Ability to order, receive, and distribute nursing supplies. Ability to administer first aid to ill/injured students according to school policy. Ability to dispense medication according to school policy and Doctor's orders. Ability to complete and follow up on health appraisals and make appropriate referrals and reports. Vision Screening Hearing Screening Scoliosis Screening Ability to develop and notify the appropriate individuals for communicable disease control. Ability to work cooperatively with building principals and counselors to enforce immunization policies. Ability to maintain immunization audit and record updates and make periodic progress reports as required. Ability to assist district employees with illness and first aid issues. Ability to keep current on new information, innovative ideas and techniques. Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner. Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential. Ability to maintain an orderly and accurate filing system. Ability to use and provide information from school's student database. Ability to maintain a friendly manner in dealing with patrons, teachers, and students. Ability to maintain required forms and records as assigned. Ability to maintain health records on all students. Ability to implement and follow all District health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
