Role Summary:
As a Senior Tax product specialist you will bring your tax manager experience & subject matter expertise to help shape the future of our tax software by translating the practitioner expertise into product strategy, workflows, AI enabled capabilities & customer solutions.
The Senior Tax Product Specialist is an individual contributor role at the heart of the ONESOURCE Tax Provision product team. This position exists to bring deep, practitioner-level tax accounting expertise directly into the product development process — ensuring that ONESOURCE reflects how corporate tax professionals actually work and what they truly need.
You will work closely with internal product, engineering, and data science teams as well as external customers and partners to develop, test, and validate product content, functionality, and AI-powered capabilities for the tax provision domain. Your accounting and tax background is not incidental to this role — it is the foundation. You will be the voice of the tax practitioner inside the product organization, applying real-world best practices to shape features that are accurate, intuitive, and trusted by the professionals who depend on them.
This role also carries a specific mandate to advance AI initiatives within ONESOURCE Tax Provision. You will develop, test, and validate the application of generative AI and intelligent automation to corporate tax workflows — providing strategic feedback to engineering and data science teams and helping define what responsible, high-quality AI looks like in a regulated tax environment.
About the Role:
In this role the Senior Tax Product Specialist will be responsible for:
Product Roadmap Delivery & AIDevelop and validate segment-specific product content and functionality for ONESOURCE Tax Provision, drawing on firsthand expertise in corporate tax provision processes and best practices.
Apply deep knowledge of ASC 740, IFRS, deferred tax computations, rate reconciliation, and financial close workflows to assess product capabilities and identify meaningful improvement opportunities.
Develop, test, and validate the application of generative AI and intelligent automation to tax provision workflows — including document understanding, automated reconciliation, anomaly detection, and AI-assisted review.
Provide strategic feedback to engineers and data scientists on AI feature performance, accuracy, and real-world applicability, utilizing independent judgment grounded in tax practitioner experience.
Lead the development of advanced use cases for tax professionals utilizing ONESOURCE and Thomson Reuters' suite of AI-powered products, demonstrating thought leadership in the application of AI to corporate tax practice.
Partner with product managers to contribute domain expertise to roadmap prioritization, requirement definition, and feature validation — ensuring that what gets built reflects how tax provision work is actually done.
Draft guidance materials, use case documentation, and adoption resources that help tax professionals understand and effectively use new product capabilities.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
Engage directly with enterprise customers — including corporate tax directors, controllers, and Big Four advisors — as a credible domain expert who understands their workflows, pressures, and standards.
Represent ONESOURCE Tax Provision in customer advisory boards, enterprise client engagements, and industry events, providing expert perspective on product direction and tax provision best practices.
Translate practitioner insights from customer interactions into clear, actionable input for the product team — serving as the ongoing bridge between real-world tax practice and product development.
Partner with Customer Success, Sales, and Support teams to support product adoption, resolve complex tax-related questions, and contribute to customer satisfaction and retention.
Collaborate cross-functionally with UX/design, engineering, compliance, and go-to-market teams, acting as the authoritative internal voice of the corporate tax professional throughout the product lifecycle.
Coordinate with other Thomson Reuters divisions and teams on select initiatives where tax provision expertise and cross-product alignment are needed
About You:
You are a fit for this role, if you have at least the following skills and experience:
EducationA bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field is required.
CPA or CMA designation is required, or actively in progress.
An advanced degree (MST, MBA, or equivalent) is a strong plus.
Tax & Accounting Domain Expertise
Minimum 5–7 years of professional experience in corporate tax, public accounting, or a tax technology environment — with hands-on responsibility for income tax provision.
Deep, working knowledge of ASC 740 / income tax provision processes is required; this is the core domain of the role.
Experience with deferred tax computations, effective tax rate analysis, rate reconciliation, and uncertain tax positions.
Familiarity with IFRS (IAS 12) tax provision standards is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to apply tax accounting best practices to assess software functionality, identify gaps, and articulate what a high-quality tax provision tool should do.
Prior use of enterprise tax provision software — such as ONESOURCE, Corptax, Longview, or CCH Tagetik — is strongly preferred; direct experience with ONESOURCE Tax Provision is a significant plus.
AI & Technology Fluency
Proven experience working with or evaluating generative AI tools in a professional context, with the ability to assess accuracy, reliability, and fitness for use in high-stakes tax workflows.
Comfortable collaborating with engineering and data science teams to test AI-powered features and provide practitioner-grounded feedback — no coding required, but technical fluency is expected.
Awareness of responsible AI principles, including auditability, explainability, and appropriate use of AI in regulated accounting and tax environments.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace; experience with enterprise tax research tools (e.g., Checkpoint, ONESOURCE, Bloomberg Tax) is a plus.
Communication & Collaboration
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into clear product guidance, customer-facing materials, and cross-functional requirements.
Experience drafting guidance documents, use case materials, or training content for professional audiences.
Proven ability to work effectively across internal teams — product, engineering, sales, and customer success — in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a product specialist, solutions consultant, or subject matter expert role within a tax or financial technology company.
Experience at a Big Four or large regional accounting firm, or within the tax function of a large multinational corporation.
Hands-on experience testing, validating, or providing feedback on AI-powered features in enterprise software.
Familiarity with ERP platforms relevant to tax data (SAP, Oracle, Workday, NetSuite).
