Medical Assisting Instructor

Location: Franklin, Massachusetts Position Type: Full-time Salary: $59,281 to $120,462 Per Year Starting Date: Immediately Job Description The Medical Assisting Instructor instructs and trains high school students to assist doctors and nurses in providing care to their patients including, recording and updating medical histories and contact information in patient files, scheduling patient appointments, and performing standard care procedures such as drawing blood, checking vitals, and collecting lab samples. Integrated throughout are essential employability skills for entry‑level medical assisting positions. Typical Duties Ensure curriculum is current with industry standards. Work with professional organizations associated with medical assisting such as the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Use student data to drive instructional practices. Assist with curriculum development, instruction and participate in program reviews. Demonstrate and differentiate instructional methods for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student learning needs. Develop a variety of written materials (e.g., syllabus, unit and daily lesson plans, curricular maps, assessments, attendance records, anecdotal communications, etc.) for the purpose of documenting and communicating student progress. Partner with instructional team leaders for planning, implementation, and reflection on instruction. Participate in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of professional growth in an educational setting. Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of planning instruction, providing feedback to students, and communicating achievement. Manage student behavior in a variety of educational environments by providing a safe and positive learning environment. Identify and develop a variety of work‑based learning opportunities for students. Engage students in leadership development. Assist students to complete service‑learning projects and program fundraising events. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues at the district level to improve the overall quality of student outcomes and achievement of established program goals. Communicate student progress and behaviors with parents and/or legal guardians. Establish and maintain a good rapport with community partners and advisory councils. Develop and implement a rigorous lab safety program. Perform other related duties as assigned. Reports To Vocational Director Physical Demands Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Ability to observe safe practice criteria in assisting patients. Ability to safely support the full weight of a patient when necessary. Ability to stoop, crouch, and kneel occasionally. Job Requirements MA DESE Chapter 74 Vocational Technical Medical Assisting Teacher License or eligibility for licensure. Possess an Associate’s Degree or higher related to the subject matter and a current national certification as a medical assistant or medical assistant/secretary (CMA or RMA certification), and three years of recent full‑time employment experience directly related to medical assisting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge and application of a variety of teaching strategies to engage all learning modalities. Ability to organize environment and instruction to facilitate learning with the integration of reading and writing skill development. Ability to write lesson plans for individual and group instruction. Ability to use diverse teaching strategies to meet students’ learning styles, abilities, interests, and cultural backgrounds. Ability to follow Tri‑County’s policies/procedures, including maintaining student and other required records. Ability to work effectively as a team member. Ability to engage students in team building and student recruitment activities. Preferred Qualifications At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
