Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Details:

• 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM with flexibility for 11:00 PM to 11:30 PM or variable schedule (days/evenings)
• Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday requirement: 2 out of 3 winter holidays; every other holiday during other times
• No on-call or standby requirement
• 36-hour weekly option available
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days/Evenings 1:4-5; Nights 1:6 (up to 1:7 if short staffed)
• Nurse aide support available: 1:7-9 ratio on days/evenings; 1:14 overnight
• Common patient diagnoses include oncology/hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, failure to thrive, and weakness
• Must have acute care experience and comfort with complex patients
• Prior travel experience preferred
• Must have experience with drips and be comfortable titrating drips including insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide
• Must be comfortable managing blood transfusions
• No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge required
• Travel pairs will not be accepted
• Centralized tele techs monitor and read strips; RNs are asked to be tele aware
• Respiratory therapy available in-house 24/7; may involve continuous CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow O2
• Charge nurse and house supervisor on all shifts; travelers may be asked to step into charge role, especially on nights
• Floating policy: first to float within med-surg units; out of med-surg only for observer needs or helping hands in 4-hour increments
• Scrub color: any color acceptable; no logos from other health systems
• Orientation consists of 1 day of computer/CBT/regulatory training and one 12-hour shift on the floor
• Charting system: Cerner
• Required certification: BLS (AHA)

Facility:

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center providing comprehensive medical services across multiple specialties. The medical-surgical telemetry unit consists of 27 beds and supports a wide range of complex patient populations. The facility offers robust support services including centralized telemetry monitoring, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and dedicated charge nurses and house supervisors on every shift, ensuring a well-supported clinical environment for nursing staff.
