We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Inside Machine Shop. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for three Pump and Valve Mechanic J1 - J4. The hours are 0600 -1445 M-F and some weekends.

GUIDELINES FOR INSIDE MACHINIST (PUMP MECHANIC AND VALVE MECHANIC)

JOURNEYPERSON 4

Should be able to work on any equipment shown below. Able to understand and submit CFR's with dimensional information. Be able to track orders for parts.

Identify parts.


Read and use tech manual and blueprints.


They should be able to furnish sizes and clearances and recommendation for repairs to the supervisor.

JOURNEYPERSON 3

Should be able to work on any equipment shown below with very little supervision. Should have vast selection of pump specific tools to include calipers, indicators and micrometers.

They should be able to identify parts, read and use tech manual and blueprints.

JOURNEYPERSON 2

Should be able to work on any equipment shown below with supervision. Should have acquired pump specific tools. Read dial indicator and other precision measurement tools.

JOURNEYPERSON 1

Should be able to work on any equipment shown below with close supervision.

Experience in the overhaul and testing of all the following:

1. Close coupled pumps
2. Reciprocating pumps
3. Valve pumps
4. Rotary pumps
5. Gear pumps
6. Circulating pumps
7. Vacuum pumps

All journeyperson should have an assortment of combination wrenches, socket sets, adjustable wrenches, socket sets, adjustable wrenches, hammers-ball pean and flat head, screw drivers, vice grips, 6' scale, slip joint pliers, wire pliers, allen wrenches.

1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

The Inside Machinist Pumps J4 is responsible for accomplishing work in accordance with work specifications, safety, with the highest quality, in a professional manner. Regular, reliable attendance on-site is an essential function of the job.

1. POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)

1. 1. Typically has a High School diploma or equivalent plus 5 (five) years minimum directly related experience in a Shipyard Environment.
   2. Must meet all Journeyman Pump Machinist 3 requirements.

1. 1. Must be able to work on any equipment shown below with no supervision: Close coupled pumps, Reciprocating pumps, Valve pumps, Rotary pumps, Gear pumps, Circulating pumps and Vacuum pumps with supervision.

1. 1. Must be able to oversee a small group of people and lead the job from start to finish via work specification and EPCP/PCP/CWP.

1. 1. Must have the ability to plan, organize and prioritize well and handle problems and concerns without assistance.

1. 1. Proficient with the requirements of the process and the equipment used.

1. 1. Proficient with the requirements of the applicable OSHA and NAVSEA Standard Items.

1. 1. Must know how to set up a job and correspond with other shops.

1. 1. Must be able to understand and submit CFR's with dimensional information.

1. 1. Be able to track orders for parts and identify parts.

1. 1. Read and use tech manual and blueprints.

1. 1. Must be able to furnish sizes and clearances and recommendation for repairs to the supervisor.

1. 1. Set up and operations of conventional and special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assembles machined parts into complete pumps with little supervision.

1. VISUAL REQUIREMENTS

Required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines where the job is at or within arm's reach or performing mechanical or skilled trades' tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by electricians, technicians, service people, painters, mechanics, etc.

Must be able to climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%). Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding and observing co-workers using tools and equipment. Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis. Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required. Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification. Works in tight, confined work spaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools.

1. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the Inside Machine Shop Foreman / General Foreman.

1. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists in machining and assembly of components in accordance with drawings, specifications and meet Navy standard requirements, with little supervision
2. Ensure that WAF ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished. Must ensure that no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
3. Ensure that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (ex., special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc.)
4. Ensure training for/qualified for the work assigned to do (ex., JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs, etc.)
5. Ensure that job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure
6. Ability to complete assignment with little supervision.

1. UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to access all Navy installations and other shipyards. Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to work aboard vessels, climb ladders, and work in tanks and confined spaces. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment. Must be able to work evening and weekend hours. May require up to 30% travel.
