Overview:

The Advanced Heart Failure Unit (AHFU) is a 24-bed high-acuity cardiac care unit specializing in the treatment of patients with severe heart failure, pre- and post-heart transplant care, and pulmonary hypertension. While Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) and transplant experience are not required, opportunities exist for nurses who are eager to expand their cardiac skill set in these areas.

Clinical Environment & Equipment:

Nurses work with advanced bedside monitoring systems and other high-tech equipment. For candidates with previous ICU experience, there are opportunities to titrate intravenous medications based on hemodynamic monitoring.

The unit thrives on 24/7 consistent communication and intricate interdisciplinary teamwork. A strong culture of collaboration and mutual support is essential for success on the AHFU.

Staffing & Patient Load:

Nurses typically care for 34 patients, depending on acuity levels.

Education:

• Associates, Bachelors, Masters, or diploma in the Nursing Field required

Certification/Licensure:

• Virginia or Compact Multi-State License in good standing
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• ACLS
• NIH Stroke Scale

Experience:

• Must have 2 or more years of recent acute care Cardiac hospital RN experience
