About the School Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school with 1,650 students in preschool through 12th grade. Job Summary The Facilities Department has an opening for Groundskeeper, a 12‑month, full‑time non‑exempt position that reports directly to the Grounds Manager. The role works closely with other Facilities employees and requires full‑time availability, including during holidays, weekends, summer, and events at all Porter‑Gaud/O'Quinn campuses. Responsibilities Maintain all lawns, athletic fields, plantings, trees, and paved areas of the Porter‑Gaud Campus. Operate all landscape maintenance equipment safely and comply with all applicable safety regulations. Assist with special events by setting up tables/chairs, erecting tents, and performing post‑event grounds cleanup. Follow all department rules and policies as specified in the Employee Handbook. Perform other duties as assigned by the Grounds Manager, Plant Manager, or Director of Facilities. Required Skills Follow directions and work efficiently and independently. Operate landscape equipment safely and lift up to 50 lbs. Knowledge of irrigation systems, fertilization, and herbicides is preferred. Work in adverse weather conditions and during extended hours. Qualifications 2+ years of experience in landscape maintenance or construction. Valid South Carolina driver’s license and acceptable MVR. High school diploma preferred (not required). Physical Requirements Frequent lifting of 10–20 lbs and occasional lifting of 50 lbs; continuous demands on vision, hearing, fine motor skills, speech, sitting, standing, walking, and carrying. Work is performed mostly outdoors with exposure to heat, humidity, and cold. Benefits and Salary Health insurance, paid leave, school‑provided lunch, and a 403(b) retirement plan. Salary commensurate with experience; $19–$23 per hour.
