Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts (6:30 PM – 6:30 AM) | Every other weekend required | 2 out of 3 major holidays or as needed based on unit needs

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced Med Surg ICU setting serving adult and pediatric patients (15+ years) with diagnoses including respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries
• Titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
• Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry using Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; no monitor techs on unit — RNs are expected to read and interpret their own strips
• Manage and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment ranging from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilators
• Maintain and manage lines and monitoring devices including CVPs, A-lines, Swans, EV-1000, and ICP monitoring; training available for less experienced candidates
• Float to all inpatient units as needed, excluding Maternity/NICU; participate in RRTs and Codes alongside charge nurse

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license (Registered Nurse)
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac monitor strips independently
• Must comply with facility fingernail policy: artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Must successfully pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; a valid driver's license will be required at time of submittal to verify distance
• Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity Health
• All requested time off must be submitted upfront; up to 7 days per 13-week contract may be considered; additional time off requests will not be approved after submission

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with neuro surgery, thrombectomy programs, or neurovascular interventions
• Familiarity with advanced hemodynamic support including Impella, intra-aortic balloon pump, or CRRT
• Experience with specialized equipment such as Zoll Thermoguard hypothermia protocol or Belmont rapid transfuser
• Strong critical thinking skills, positive attitude, and ability to collaborate with attending physicians, fellows, and residents in a team-oriented environment
