Auto Claims Representative

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated claims trainee to join our team. The role is entry-level insurance claims handling under close supervision, covering the full life‑cycle of a claim including investigation, evaluation, and resolution. After initial in‑person training, the position offers up to three days of work‑from‑home per week based on performance. Responsibilities Investigate, evaluate, and settle entry‑level insurance claims. Study insurance policies, endorsements, and forms to develop foundational knowledge of Company insurance products. Learn and comply with Company claim‑handling procedures. Develop entry‑level claim negotiation and settlement skills. Build skills to effectively serve the needs of agents, insureds, and others. Meet and communicate with claimants, legal counsel, and third parties. Develop specialized skills, including estimating and using designated computer‑based programs for loss adjustment. Study, obtain, and maintain an adjuster’s license(s) if required by statute within the timeline established by the Company or legal requirements. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or direct equivalent experience with property/casualty claims handling. Ability to organize data, multitask, and make independent decisions. Above‑average written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write reports and compose correspondence. Ability to resolve complex issues. Ability to maintain confidentiality and data security. Ability to effectively deal with a diverse group of individuals. Ability to accurately handle mathematical problems, including geometry (area and volume) and financial calculations such as sums, unit costs, and interpreting personal and business finance documents. Valid driver’s license and the ability to drive an automobile with a driving record consistent with the Company’s underwriting guidelines. Continuously develop product knowledge through participation in approved educational programs. Must be able to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
