Phlebotomist

Responsibilities Under minimal supervision, responsible for collecting and processing specimens from patients. Follow quality assurance and safety policies and procedures. Assist with patient flow as needed. Properly identify patient, draw blood samples, and send to laboratory for analysis. Maintain collection areas, equipment, and perform record‑keeping duties. Work within clearly defined standard operating procedures and scientific methods, adhering to quality guidelines. Perform phlebotomy and collect appropriate specimens from patients as ordered. Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists. Maintain adequate inventory of supplies, ensuring all supplies are viable before use for patient collection. Send specimens to reference laboratories for testing not performed in house. Process incoming orders for lab testing. Update and file all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs. Operate designated laboratory equipment, if applicable, as directed. Use equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently. Perform waived laboratory testing under CLIA guidelines for personnel. Record proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents for waived lab tests. Comply with regulatory agency standards, OSHA compliance laws, and universal precaution procedures. Properly dispose of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean working environment and restock the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed. Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Phlebotomy Technician training program. At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory setting. Basic computer skills. Certification (CPT or RPT).
