CHILD PROTECTIVE INVESTIGATOR – 60052032

When seconds count, your decision may be the critical difference in the life of a child. Responsibilities Conduct investigations of abuse, neglect, abandonment and/or special conditions for children. Collect information through observation and interviews with the children, parents, relatives, and neighbors. Assess danger threats, child vulnerabilities and caregiver protective capacities to determine whether a child is safe. Arrange emergency placement for any child that cannot safely remain in their home. Notify state attorney, law enforcement and child protection teams. Provide families with service linkages to agency and community resources. Conduct initial and ongoing child present and impending danger assessments. Report indication of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment to the Florida Abuse Hotline. Qualifications A high school diploma or GED equivalent and four years of law enforcement experience or active military service (honorably discharged or currently serving honorably). OR an associate degree or 60+ credit hours from an accredited college or university and two years of professional work experience (e.g., guardian ad litem, family support worker, group home worker, teacher or teaching assistant, therapeutic assistant, family intervention specialist, home health aide or CNA, healthcare practitioner such as LPN, RN, nursing facility assistant, paramedic or EMT, dispatcher, security/safety officer, emergency management deputy or director, investigator for a government entity, or other welfare, education, first responder, emergency management or medical professional in high-paced, high-stress environments). OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Applicants must provide official transcripts or a copy of their diploma within 30 days of hire, and proof of a Florida Child Protective Investigator Certification within 12 months after provisional certification. Must have a valid Florida driver license. Must possess a private vehicle for work activities and provide proof of registration and insurance coverage within 30 days of hire. Must attend an 8–12 week mandatory training course during day, weekend, or evening hours. Additional Information The position requires night, weekend, and holiday work. It is an essential position; incumbents may work before, during, and after normal hours, and may be required to work during emergencies or natural disasters. Incumbents may be exposed to hazardous field conditions. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Managing time, assessing, planning, intervening, evaluating, documenting, engaging, and teaming. Ability to handle domestic violence, mental health, and substance abuse cases and establish effective relationships with colleagues. Physical requirements include: locomotion on varied terrain, ability to enter residences, evacuate clients during emergencies, normal vision and hearing, repetitive arm movements, ability to bend, kneel, push, pull, lift up to 30 pounds, sit or stand periods without break, work 16‑hour shifts on occasion, remain alert while on duty, and drive a vehicle to transport clients during both day and night.
