Job Title: Product Specialist Pay & FSLA Status: $80,000 - $130,000 per year base with commission opportunities, D.O.E.; Salary exempt Regular Schedule & Shift: Monday - Friday; Day shift Regular Weekly Hours: Full-time/40 hours per week (overtime as needed) Paid Time Off (PTO): 80 hours accrued year one, 120 hours accrued following year one Paid Sick Time: 24 hours annually Management Position: No Branch Location: Boise, ID POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the branch Sales Manager and Director of Composites, the Product Specialist is responsible for accelerating growth of assigned specialty building product categories across the dealer network by driving dealer readiness, market development, customer engagement, and product expertise within an assigned territory. Working alongside Account Executives, Territory Sales Representatives, Inside Sales, and manufacturer partners, this role equips customers with the knowledge, merchandising, and resources needed to successfully sell and specify assigned product categories.
The Product Specialist serves as the subject matter expert for their assigned product category, providing technical guidance, product education, contractor engagement, specification support, and market intelligence. This position helps create demand, strengthen customer relationships, increase product adoption, and support profitable sales growth, while complementing the Account Executive's customer ownership. - Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned specialty building product categories, including product applications, installation methods, code requirements, and warranties.
- Partner with Account Executives to develop and execute territory growth strategies while supporting existing customer relationships and new business development.
- Conduct product training for dealer personnel, inside sales teams, contractors, builders, architects, designers, and other channel partners.
- Perform dealer readiness assessments and recommend improvements to merchandising, displays, samples, literature, and showroom presentation.
- Conduct product demonstrations, counter days, lunch-and-learns, jobsite visits, and customer education events.
- Support contractor recruitment, engagement, and loyalty initiatives that drive product adoption.
- Promote assigned product categories with builders, architects, designers, contractors, developers, and remodelers to increase specification opportunities.
- Assist customers with product selection, technical questions, installation guidance, and project support.
- Represent the company at trade shows, customer events, industry associations, and open houses.
- Monitor competitive products, pricing, and market trends and communicate insights to sales leadership and supplier partners.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, opportunities, pipeline activity, and territory performance.
- Collaborate with internal sales teams, supplier representatives, and operational partners to ensure consistent customer experience.
- Strong business acumen with knowledge of sales principles, market dynamics, and current and emerging industry trends.
- Demonstrated technical aptitude with the ability to develop and maintain expertise in assigned product categories, including product applications, installation methods, building codes, specifications, and warranty requirements.
- Strong consultative selling, presentation, and training skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to dealers, contractors, builders, architects, designers, and internal teams.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships across customers, supplier partners, and internal teams.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and results-oriented with the ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and manage time effectively.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and customer service skills with the ability to recommend product solutions that meet customer needs.
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain technical documents, specifications, installation instructions, and product literature.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and other business technology applications.
- Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory, with approximately 75% of time spent in the field.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people while maintaining high ethical and professional standards.
- Relevant building products industry experience and product knowledge preferred.
- Valid driver's license, ability to meet company vehicle insurance requirements, and a proven safe driving record.
- Bachelor's degree in sales or a related field.
- 5 to 7 years of relevant sales and industry experience.
- Any combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position will be accepted in place of the education and/or experience requirements listed for this role.

- This position operates in a professional office environment, lumber yard, and retail warehouse environment.
- This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.
- The work environment is generally quiet but can be loud in the lumber yard and retail warehouse environment.
- This position requires travel throughout the assigned territory at least 75% of the time.
- All employees are expected to wear clothing appropriate for the nature of OrePac business and the type of work being performed. Clothing should be neat, clean, and tasteful.
- Report all incidents and accidents to one's immediate supervisor immediately or within 24 hours.
- Maintain the work area in a safe and healthful condition.
