About the Position

Description

We are seeking a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician to provide locum coverage at a Critical Access Hospital in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts , on beautiful Martha’s Vineyard. This is an excellent opportunity for an Emergency Medicine physician with community, rural, or critical access experience. The ED sees approximately 13,000 patients annually , with a diverse patient population and limited on-site specialty support.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive Emergency Medicine care in a Critical Access Hospital ED.
• Evaluate and treat patients across all age groups, including approximately 14% pediatric volume .
• Manage approximately 2.5–3 patients per hour .
• Provide emergency assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Work independently with limited on-site specialty support.
• Manage approximately 20–24 patients per day .
• Accurately document patient encounters using Epic EMR .
• Collaborate with hospital staff and arrange transfers or specialty consultation when necessary.

Working Hours

• Assignment: Approximately 3 months
• Coverage: Approximately 10–13 shifts per month
• September: Evening/night shifts:
  • 3:00 PM – 12:00 AM
  • 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• October–December: Night shifts
  • 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• No Call
• 12-hour shifts during the October–December schedule.

Requirements

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree.
• Board Certified in Emergency Medicine (Required).
• Internal Medicine and Family Medicine candidates will not be considered.
• Active Massachusetts Medical License required.
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Medicine experience required.
• ACLS certification required.
• DEA registration with Massachusetts authorization required.
• Community, rural, or Critical Access Hospital experience preferred.
• Strong clinical decision-making skills and ability to work independently.
