Department Summary The UCLA International Institute educates students, supports scholarship on the world at UCLA, and serves as a campus and community resource. With a history dating back to 1958, the Institute is the central hub for global and area studies on campus. Its more than 27 centers and programs support innovative multidisciplinary research on specific world regions and pressing global issues. Its rigorous academic programs offer degrees in global studies, international development, global health, international migration and diverse regions and countries of the world. The UCLA International Institute is directed by a senior management team led by the Vice Provost for International Studies and Global Engagement, two Associate Vice Provosts and two Assistant Vice Provosts. The Office of the Vice Provost develops and implements UCLA’s global strategy, manages the university’s partnership agreements with foreign educational and research institutions, and represents UCLA to international constituencies and organizations. Position Summary Serve as the Program Manager, Outreach and Development for the International Institute's Center for Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies (TCJS). Responsibilities include development growth in Japan and the US, contract and grant solicitation, outreach and fundraising activities, and support for the Center’s Global Fellows program. The Program Manager represents the Director in Japan, meets with the Japan Foundation and delegations from Japanese universities, and collaborates with campus offices. Duties involve managing the Center’s website, social media outreach strategies, and liaison activities with the Japanese Consulate, universities, community groups, media, and distinguished visitors. The role advises on content for workshops, seminars, conferences, and other events in conjunction with the Director. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors such as budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Qualifications Strong oral communication skills for obtaining and conveying information clearly and interacting professionally with individuals at various levels. (Required) Organizational skills to research and compile information for grant proposals, reports, and databases. (Required) Ability to design cultivation and solicitation strategies for donor prospects appropriate to the Center and UCLA. (Required) Highly developed writing skills for preparing contracts, grant proposals, correspondence, reports, and other documents. (Required) Experience networking in Japan and ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, university administrators, government officials, and private donors. (Required) Ability to facilitate and coordinate planning efforts from concept through implementation. (Required) Cultural sensitivity for managing working relations with collaborating institutions in Asia, particularly Japan. (Required) Bilingual verbal and writing skills in Japanese and English, including translation between the two languages. (Required) Interpersonal skills for engaging foreign dignitaries from Asian countries with appropriate protocol. (Required) Public speaking skills and proficiency with Windows-based word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. (Required) Ability to supervise clerical employees and extensive knowledge of Japanese educational systems and cultural practices. (Required) Working knowledge of university administrative policies, procedures, and research resources. (Preferred) Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s Degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
