Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Instrumentation & Controls Engineer IIIQuanta Power Solutions is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer III to support the design, implementation, and optimization of control systems for power generation projects. Based in our Birmingham hub, this role will focus on simple cycle and combined cycle generation, as well as emerging battery energy storage systems, supporting critical infrastructure that meets growing energy demand driven by data centers and industrial load growth.What You'll DoDesign and develop instrumentation and control systems for power generation facilities, including simple and combined cycle plantsCreate and review engineering deliverables such as P&IDs, control narratives, loop diagrams, and wiring diagramsSpecify and select instrumentation, control valves, PLC/DCS systems, and associated hardwareDevelop and implement control strategies for turbines, balance of plant (BOP) systems, and auxiliary equipmentCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, process, and project engineering) to ensure integrated system designSupport procurement by preparing technical specifications and evaluating vendor proposalsParticipate in HAZOPs, SIL assessments, and other safety and risk reviewsProvide construction and commissioning support, including system checkout, troubleshooting, and startup activitiesEnsure compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and client specificationsMentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practicesEmployee may be required to visit job sites, field offices, and customer locationsWhat You'll BringBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field7+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineeringHands-on experience with PLC and/or DCS systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Emerson, Honeywell)Strong understanding of industrial control systems, process instrumentation, and automation in power generation environmentsExperience developing control narratives, logic diagrams, and system architecturesFamiliarity with industry standards (ISA, IEC, NFPA, etc.)Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting simple cycle and combined cycle power generation projectsBackground in EPC or design-build project environmentsExperience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) integrationFunctional safety experience (SIL, SIS design)Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensureExperience supporting commissioning and startup of large-scale power generation facilitiesWhat You'll GetCompetitive Compensation401(k) Retirement PlanHoliday PayPaid Time Off (PTO)Comprehensive Health CoveragePet InsuranceEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Professional DevelopmentTuition AssistanceEmployee Discount ProgramEqual Opportunity EmployerAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, sex (including gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, and/or gender identity), age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, and/or any other basis protected by applicable federal, state or local law.
