Interior Designer II

We are a healthcare-focused architecture and interior design practice seeking an experienced Interior Designer II to join our collaborative team in Houston. This position is ideal for a design professional with 5-8 years of experience who is passionate about healthcare design and ready to take a leadership role in the planning, design, documentation, and implementation of healthcare projects. The successful candidate will work closely with architects, interior designers, planners, project managers, consultants, and clients to create innovative environments that enhance patient care, improve staff efficiency, and support organizational goals. The Interior Designer II will lead and contribute to all phases of project delivery, including programming, planning, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, furniture planning, specifications, and construction administration. This individual will also serve as a mentor to emerging professionals and contribute to maintaining a culture of quality, teamwork, integrity, and continuous learning. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Lead interior design efforts through all phases of project delivery. Participate in client interviews, programming sessions, user group meetings, and planning workshops. Translate client goals and project requirements into creative, functional, and technically sound design solutions. Develop interior design concepts, finish palettes, furniture solutions, and presentation materials. Support project teams in integrating evidence-based design principles into healthcare environments. Present design solutions to clients and stakeholders with confidence and professionalism. Interior Design & Furniture Planning Selection and specification of interior materials, finishes, furnishings, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E). Develop and oversee finish plans, finish schedules, furniture plans, and interior detailing. Evaluate product performance, durability, maintenance requirements, sustainability considerations, and budget impacts. Maintain knowledge of current industry trends, healthcare products, materials, and design innovations. Technical Documentation & Coordination Prepare and oversee production of design and construction documents utilizing Revit and related software platforms. Coordinate with architectural, engineering, lighting, technology, and specialty consultants. Ensure project documentation is accurate, coordinated, and aligned with firm quality standards. Review drawings and specifications for technical accuracy and constructability. Assist with quality assurance and quality control reviews throughout project development. Construction Administration Participate in all construction administration activities. Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, finish samples, and product substitutions. Conduct site visits, field observations, punch walks, and installation reviews. Assist project teams in resolving design and construction challenges while maintaining project intent. Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and consultants during project implementation. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior interior design staff. Assist with training emerging professionals in design processes, documentation standards, and project workflows. Foster collaboration and promote a positive team environment. Contribute to the continuous improvement of design standards, processes, and project delivery practices. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related discipline from an accredited program. 5-8 years of professional interior design experience. Experience on healthcare, institutional, higher education, commercial, or similarly complex projects. Advanced proficiency in Revit. Strong understanding of interior design principles, space planning, detailing, furniture planning, and construction documentation. Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and project deadlines. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS NCIDQ Certification. Registered Interior Designer in Texas or working toward registration. Membership in IIDA, ASID, or other professional organizations. Experience with SketchUp, Enscape, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office. Familiarity with healthcare regulations, TDSHS Requirements, FGI Guidelines, ADA requirements, and applicable building and life safety codes. Experience coordinating consultants and leading portions of project delivery. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Comprehensive understanding of the interior design process from programming through construction administration. Strong space planning and problem-solving capabilities. Knowledge of healthcare environments, patient-centered design, and evidence-based design principles. Ability to independently develop design solutions and technical documentation. Strong understanding of interior materials, furnishings, finish applications, and specifications. Ability to communicate design concepts effectively to clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams. Strong attention to detail, organization, and project coordination. Ability to mentor staff and contribute to a collaborative studio culture. Commitment to delivering high-quality projects that support client goals and user needs.
