Overview

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist III supports both the Hartselle (Thompson Road) and MC Cable facilities day-to-day environmental, health, and safety activities.

This position works closely with plant leadership, supervisors, team members, and the Cerrowire EHS team to support a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. The EHS Specialist assists with implementation of company EHS programs, regulatory compliance activities, training, inspections, incident investigations, corrective actions, and employee engagement.

The position reports directly to the Sr. Manager of Environmental, Health & Safet y, but has a dotted line responsibility to the Manager – EHS at the Hartselle (Thompson Road) location which will provide day-to-day EHS technical guidance and support including direction on key EHS corporate initiatives.

This role is intended to provide daily plant-level EHS support while developing the individual's technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and experience in environmental, health, and safety.

Daily EHS Support

• Serve as the primary day-to-day EHS point of contact for Hartselle and MC Cable facilities.
• Maintain a visible presence on the plant floor and regularly engage with team members and supervisors regarding safety.
• Assist employees and supervisors with questions regarding EHS policies, procedures, safe work practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Identify and communicate workplace hazards and opportunities for improvement.
• Escalate significant hazards, compliance concerns, incidents, or other EHS issues to plant leadership and the Sr. Manager of EHS as appropriate.
• Support implementation of corporate and facility EHS initiatives.

Hazard Identification and Prevention

• Conduct and/or participate in routine workplace safety inspections.
• Assist with identifying, evaluating, and correcting workplace hazards.
• Participate in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and risk-assessment activities.
• Assist departments with developing and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
• Monitor corrective actions to ensure timely completion and follow up to verify effectiveness.
• Participate in safety observations and other proactive hazard-identification activities.

Incident and Near-Miss Management

• Respond to workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses.
• Assist with incident and near-miss investigations.
• Help identify underlying and contributing factors and appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Assist with documentation and follow-up of investigation findings.
• Track corrective actions through completion.
• Communicate lessons learned and prevention opportunities as appropriate.
• Promptly escalate serious incidents or significant potential exposures to the Sr. Manager of EHS and plant leadership.

EHS Training

• Coordinate and deliver assigned EHS training, including new-hire safety orientation and required refresher training.
• Assist supervisors and managers with identifying training needs.
• Maintain EHS training records.
• Support development and revision of training materials.
• Assist with retraining following incidents, observed performance concerns, changes in equipment or processes, or other identified needs.
• Reinforce safe work practices through routine employee engagement and coaching.

EHS Programs and Compliance

Assist with implementation and maintenance of applicable EHS programs, which may include:

• Hazard Communication.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Lockout/Tagout and Control of Hazardous Energy.
• Powered Industrial Trucks.
• Machine Safety and Guarding.
• Emergency Action and Response.
• Hearing Conservation.
• Respiratory Protection, where applicable.
• Electrical Safety.
• Walking-Working Surfaces.
• Ergonomics and Material Handling.
• Contractor Safety.
• Environmental and Waste Management programs.
• Other applicable regulatory and company EHS requirements.

The EHS Specialist is not expected to independently interpret complex regulatory matters and should seek guidance from the Sr. Manager of EHS or other EHS resources when questions or uncertainties arise.

Safety Committee and Employee Engagement

• Support and participate in facility Safety Committee activities.
• Assist with scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, documenting minutes, and tracking committee action items as needed.
• Encourage employee participation in hazard identification and safety-improvement activities.
• Assist with safety campaigns, communications, toolbox talks, awareness activities, and other employee-engagement efforts.
• Encourage team members to report hazards, near misses, and safety concerns.
• Help communicate the status and resolution of employee safety concerns

Environmental Support

• Assist with routine environmental compliance activities applicable to the facility.
• Support proper management, labeling, storage, and disposal of regulated and non-regulated waste.
• Assist with required inspections, documentation, and recordkeeping.
• Report spills, releases, or environmental concerns immediately through established escalation processes.
• Support environmental improvement and waste-reduction initiatives.
• Coordinate with the Sr. Manager of EHS and other EHS resources regarding environmental compliance questions.

Documentation and Recordkeeping

• Maintain organized and accurate EHS records.
• Assist with OSHA recordkeeping documentation as directed by the Sr. Manager of EHS.
• Maintain inspection, training, corrective-action, and other assigned EHS records.
• Assist with preparation for internal and external EHS audits and inspections.
• Track EHS action items and communicate overdue or unresolved items to responsible parties.
• Assist with EHS metrics, reports, and other information requested by plant or EHS leadership.
