UHealth system/University of Miami, has an exciting opportunty for a Director, Radiation Control in Downtown, Miami.

SUMMARY

The Director, Radiation Control serves as the Executive Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), and Chief Imaging Physicist for the University of Miami, UHealth, the Public Health Trust, and as department administrator. The Director, Radiation Control oversees the use of radiation and personnel exposure at the academic centers, 
including basic sciences research. The incumbent oversees and manages the Systems Imaging Physics program overseeing over 30 CTs, 21 Mammography (Hologic), over 150 Fluoroscopy, approximately 300 Ultrasound units and transducers, and many radiographic tubes.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• Reviews all proposals for the use of radioactive materials under the State of Florida Radioactive Materials License issued to the University and recommends action to the Non-Human Use Radiation Safety Committee.

• Reviews plans for new and renovated research space under the Non-Human Use license to ensure that the design is suitable for the proposed use of radioactive materials or radiation-producing devices.

• Performs shielding design, calculations, and post-shielding assessments for all imaging modalities including PET.

• Reviews all Human Subjects Research Protocols involving the use of ionizing radiation or radioactive materials. Grants interim approval by the Human Use Radiation Safety Committee and recommends final action to that Committee.

• Drafts comments as appropriate for various University officers, administrators, and faculty regarding pending legislation or regulations regarding radiation issues.

• Directs all Medical Physicists of the Center as well as the Office Manager of the RCC.

• Maintains State of Florida licensure and performs the functions of a Medical Physicist as necessary to meet the workload of the RCC.

• Establishes MRI safety policies including policies dealing with scanning of MR safe/MR conditional devices.

• Ensures Medical Physics testing of all imaging modalities in support of ACR accreditation, TJC accreditation, and state requirements.

• Identifies, disposes, and surveys radioactive waste

• Leads policy development for Mass Casualty situations from Radiological ‘dirty bomb’ or Nuclear detonation.

• Participates in radionuclide-based therapies and patient-specific dosimetry.

• Ensures internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding of assets, compliance with University policies and procedures, reliability of internal and external reporting, and efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Creates an effective control environment, conducts risk assessment, implements, and monitors controls.

Education:

Master's degree in relevant field required

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required
